Right. It's much more work to recreate the dynamic surrounding Madeline and/or Operations in an AU setting. It can (and has been) done, but you have to select the AU setting so that it creates some of the same Section issues. Very tough.

Yes, they didn't exactly have a very 'normal' romantic relationship in canon... neither did Michael and Nikita for that matter... Hmmm. How come it's easier to write a Michael/Nikita AU romance? Do the AUs - in their attempt to focus on the romance - end up flattening the relationship? *ponders*
