Kathy and the boys are headed up to GreenBay this afternoon for a preseason game tonight - she's going with her family and the boys are staying with their cousins and a couple of babysitters (3year old big Al = match, Danny = dynamite; you should see the two)

anyway, here's some of the deal:

Kathy's boss Terry has received the raise she was promised when she was promoted to full professor (before this brew-ha). She has not received a new contract. She is still the director. She has gone from leaving, to staying and wanting Kathy to stay, to wanting to leave a couple of times...

Kathy declined the interim director position. Kathy has no signed contract, her current one expires june 2006. When Kathy answered the "what will it take to keep you" question in the middle of the summer, she gave them a number that was too generous and not far from her current salary. The basic message was she wanted to be at least near the average for a PT professor at a small private university. (and the biggest reason is that they are going to have some retirements soon and how do you recruit from a small pool of candidates with below avg. pay?) The university didn't issue a new contract, just sent the previous offer with a signing deadline before the document was postmarked. Kathy basically gave it a pocket veto.

Kathy has met several times with Barbara Hart, the search co-ordinator for the PT director at UWM. They have also met with the Dean of the School of Allied Health, and with Kathy's boss Terry. Those talks appear to be heading in the direction of Kathy and Terry both coming under the employment of UWM. Interviews, etc. need to happen, but there is some hint of inevitibility from the UWM side (assuming Kathy and Terry agree). Timing, entry positions, job functions, etc. are still up in the air - but most likely Kathy would be the director and share some responsibilities with Terry. The positions are tenure track, so the timeline for that needs to be worked out as well. Most likely, Kathy would be given an extended period to adjust for program development.

Kathy has met with an attorney to discuss issues with intellectual property and contracts, both w/ regard to Concordia and UWM. She owns her lecture content, etc. (academia is different from the corporate world where I own nothing of what I develop at RA) and there are web based courses as well as other material she has developed and wants to protect.

That's the gist of what's been going on... More at 10.
