Have you heard the news £22 million on hotel ??? for the airport.Great for those who can afford to use it. What will will the visitors think when then pass through Speke.
The money would be better spent on the community and housing inprovements. landscaping would give a better outlook and could benifit the whole area, '''but alass. 'NOT TO BE.' the only advantage of the Hotel it will create many jobs.
Will they never realise the pride that people have in the Speke area and so many Councel houses are now owned. This is because of the nature of the people and the place as a whole. Tenants in the early 50s & 6os never had the opertunity or morgage facilities to buy as they where council owed, and you could not buy them.''. The Majority of the houses where well looked after and often in my early would pass painters up ladders. They would be doing the 'CORPY' green on the gates and busy with facias and window painting. WHEN DID YOU LAST SEE THIS being Done These days. !!!!!!. They put a gate or door on unpainted let it rot for a few years then they decide to send a painter to fill the rot holes and paint it. How 'Sad is that.''
Anyway I LOVE a good Moan,'' But I Miss Speke as we all do, everyones childhood sets a bsic path for your future Adult Years. I had A GREAT childhood and enjoy life to the Full.

You are right Rob....Speke was one of the greatest places to be for children in the 50's and 60's. We were close to town and yet we had all the facilties of the country with the woods, the ponds and the shoreline at Oglet. What more could a kid want.....paradise? Now Oglet is home to the "Fly Tippers" and the woods have all gone and the ponds built on or filled in. No more fishing on a Saturday morning with your mates at the "Millies". That, I guess is progress but the cost was a high one to pay with the destruction of the countryside, depriving all the future generations of ever knowing what it was like to live in that environment. Sad........
