Josie --
It's good that you bring this perspective. It would be way too complicated to fully explain the derivation of the expression under discussion. All I can say is:
a) It is indeed a guy thing.
b) It is a figure of speech -- not to be taken literally.
c) Although guys and gals operate differently in locker rooms, at least as I understand how the x-chromosome types operate, I have never seen a guy attend to another's article of clothing, undergarment or otherwise.
d) This is clearly an overwrought, macho, insulting expression.
Frank excels at these kinds of expressions in the bloodless world of internet forums, so as to make up for his own pathetic real-world life. His wife left him, he had to move out of his subsidized housing, he has no girlfriend, he looks like a girl and talks like a girl, he lost to Tom Salem -- at a time when Tom's political stock was at an all-time low -- because he was too afraid to debate him, and another time he forgot to file his nomination papers and was disqualified. Can you say l-o-s-e-r?
So in his make-believe world on Dracut After Dark, he can pretend to have friends by signing on as someone else, he can pretend to be a tough guy by assuming the Dropkick Murphy moniker and saying "Yo" and "Dawg" a lot, nobody can hear his girl voice or see his girl face, and if he doesn't like what somebody says, he can just not post it, because he's the moderator. What a great deal! Never mind that he hasn't lived in Dracut for some time. Would you give up this fantasy world if you were he? If he did give up DAD, I would hide all the small animals!
(By the way, white-bread weenie Frank assuming the gangsta mantle with the yo's and the dawg's -- isn't that just the stupidest thing yet?)
So, I guess I just can't explain Frank's use of that expression -- not here in the real world anyway.
