Dear Kelly,
That's why on this site we try to establish identity if someone has a real opinion or criticism to post. And again, if somebody is just asking an unloaded question, they can be just as anonymous as they want to be.
Regarding Town Meeting, everyone must be checked in by the poll workers just like when you get a ballot on election day. You then get a UV stamp that shows up under a black light at the entrance doors. If you're not a resident, that is, if you are guest (like the press), you're supposed to wear a bright orange guest tag and sit in a certain section up front. That way, the Moderator can keep an eye out and make sure those people aren't voting.
Now, having said all that, is it possible for people to fraudulently register, just like at elections, by claiming to be somebody they are not? Sure, I suppose. I would refer people who think about doing that to MGL Chapter 56, Section 26, "Illegal voting or attempt to vote" which calls for a fine of up to $10,000 and imprisonment up to five years.
So, Kelly (and everybody else for that matter), do you know of someone from out of town who registered at the Town Meeting, not as a guest, but as a Dracut voter? I'd really like to hear about that. Send me an email if you don't want to post here.
Dennis
