A lot of people think it was an apple, but this is a tradition that has no basis in the Bible. I think it probably comes from various old renaisance paintings.

There are few old traditions that people think is in the Bible but are not. Another one is that there were '3' wise men at Christ's birth. The Bible doesn't say. Could have been 3, 33, or 333.

There is no place where we are told that sin was allowed to thrive in the garden of eden prior to the fall.

The only way adam can have sinned is through free will. God, being a God of love, gives free will and does not force us to obey or love Him.

Regardless of what Satan asked Adam and Eve, the point of the story is all about free will and the consequences of disobeying God's way.

Sin is then passed down through all humanity.

Don't know if this is any answer or if I am understanding you correctly. Have a house full of kids at the moment going mental around me. Can't concentrate!
