Do you realise that's morally screwed up? You basically decide who has more right to live; you or him. Even worse, you decide the risk of your death needs to be prevented at the cost of his life.

And THAT's the main difference between Europe and the US. Everyone choses to give up rights, you Americans give up rights too, you give up the right for a proper democracy by living in the bloody country, for God's sake. But for other instances you give up the right to use drugs. These are choices, rights are given up in order for a culture to live.

We chose to give up the right to bear arms. Why? Because we don't feel we have any right to decide whether or not a man should be alive or dead. Like it or not, but that makes us the most morally developed country, not you. I'm talking simple Christian morality here, the one used by Europe and the US alike.

We fought for a couple of days, surrendered as soon as Rotterdam was bombed. Belgium fought longer, France even longer. The Dutch Indies fought just a tad harder, but fought really hard after the war to get rid of us. I'm glad they did that, though.

We live in a culture of compromise. The Dutch are famous for that, we're also well aware of it, we mock it ourselves, call it the "poldermodel" and laugh at our own constant compromise-making politicians, but the fact is, we like it that way, and I far prefer it to the American way of living.

Hitler would have crushed the US if he had only one front to worry about.
