No, that's the wrong answer, I point my gun at him and shoot him. I'm not taking chances, I'm not risking my family or myself. I will not be the victim of someone who is breaking into my house to commit crimes I have no idea of.

I think the main difference between the U.S. and the Netherlands, as it sounds, is that in the Netherlands, the culture is to give up your rights, however perverse you might think they are. (1) You give up your right to defend yourself by *hoping* the burglar won't shove a knife into your throat, or smash your head with a hammer or crowbar. (2) The burglar gives up his 'right' to rob you, because he's a nice guy and God-forbid if someone got hurt while he was committing an illegal act.

Hey Kharn, what did the Netherlands do in WWII? Did they just roll over and surrender hoping the Nazis (and the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies) would he nice to them and really wouldn't ship people off to concentration camps, or did your country make an attempt to defend itself, like England and the U.S. did, which is the only reason we aren't all speaking German right now (Hitler would have crushed the U.S.S.R. if he had only one front to worry about).
