Subject: I agree with the overall message, but there are two points I'd like to add.

One is that, sure, things aren't all they're cracked up to be in Afghanistan, but that isn't entirely the U.S.'s fault. Things are much better now than they were under the Taliban (though, admittedly, there really wasn't any direction to go other than up).

Also the following quote is a half-truth at best: "The entire fiasco began with the Iraqi invasion of its former province, Kuwait, which the US ambassador was warned about in advance and responded that the US took no position on the border-oil dispute then brewing."

While it is correct that the U.S. said it took no sides in Arab-Arab conflicts at the time, the ambassador did warn Saddam that any invasion of Kuwait would not be tolerated. The fact that Saddam chose to ignore that warning was his fault, not hers.

The article makes many good points, but the message is tainted by sensationalistic aspects.
