Actually the SECOND digit of the ASN represents the "Corps Area" where a soldier came from. The first digit represents his induction method.

1: Enlisted
20: National Guard
3: Drafted
4: Drafted very late war.

A second digit 1 for instance would be someone from New England. 2 is NY and NJ. etc

There are many combinations.

The last three digits have no specific meaning except that they are part of the sequential record.

Are you looking for a particular individual or do you have a specific ASN that you are researching? Whatis the number you are working with?
