We're AU here, with Draco (aka Future Love Interest) going to public school with the OC and her best friend. Another friend's father is supposedly having an affair with Hermione! I hope she is suddenly aged a few years. *mind boggles* Snape is the chemistry teacher. There is as yet no magic in sight. The OC is named Elyssa--"the power to destroy the earth lies in her unwilling and unknowing hands." And she has purple eyes and is delightfully "goth," although she's less angsty than most. At least the author didn't try to say she wasn't a Sue!

The writing style is appealing, which is why I kept on reading. I think the author could be a decent writer in a couple of years.

Much of the funniness comes unintentionally. The author doesn't have much life experience, didn't research the details, and totally failed to consider some things. For instance, the OC and her best friend are both 18, yet they are bartenders! Also, child protection services is bothering the OC's mom and thinking about taking her away because they suspect her mother has hit her, but she's not a minor and thus not under their jurisdiction! The mother is worried that they'll take her daughter away (and thus her child support--which she isn't likely to have since Elyssa's 18) but slaps her hard mere seconds before the social worker's arrival. A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, I guess.
