A newsgroup-style structure would be, well, basically just the InvisionFree format only without all those different forum subcategories. Of course, with the InvisionFree board you had to actually click on a thread rather than on an open/close button which would show it as a drop-down thread, but apart from that I'm not seeing any real difference. There's the minor inconvenience of having to hit the back button before moving on to another thread, but I think that's dwarfed by the usefulness of having different subcategories, as the InvisionFree board did.

My mistake, then. The first 'format' did not seem to go with the last 'format'.
