So far several good points have been made about Mary Sue. The perfectionism and so on do get on my nerves, but the one key element that sticks in my craw about her is how the respective authors will pull out all the stops in developing their Mary Sue while ignoring what character insight and development they could show for the other characters featured in the fic.

As has been said before, I'm interested in reading about the canon characters not the glorified personification of the author. Probably because of this I get nervous when I use OC's in my fics since I worry about crossing the line somewhere.
