Subject: Question: What makes Mary Sue so annoying?

I was thinking it over today, and I started to wonder precisely what is it that makes Sues so obnoxious? I thought out as many reasons as I could, and near as I can figure it boils down to the hypocrisy and vanity of the characters, and how regardless of this everyone, including the reader, is automatically supposed to love them (Except for evil characters or characers who are jealous of them.) They're portrayed as smart or heroic when they clearly aren't. In fact, perhaps it all stems entirely from the author's pride: the people writing them seem to believe themselves to be beautiful, heroic, smart, generous, etc. and that everyone ought to like them, and only the evil people of the world don't. Sues are the most blatant way of flaunting the fact that they're breaking one of the seven deadly sins -- and you're supposed to love them for it.

That's my best idea. What other ideas do you guys have about this?
