Author: aj's girl
Subject: "Ay, the salt! Halt the salt." A Romeo/Mercutio worthy of a giggle

Ah, ff.net's Just In page, the fun never stops.

Today, please enjoy "Romeo and Juliet with a Not So Straight Twist."

<a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1830926">http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1830926</a>

It's special because it's "Written in Shakespearean."

Be amazed at the author's accomplished use of meter and her subtle use of metaphor:

"Indeed, ‘tis of arrows I do now speak

Released of their shaking chains not by me,

But by the muffled man inside the clouds,

That fly straight but seem bemiss their target,

Piercing out hearts with shining, deadly tip."

Or:

"Ring, thou art love and bondage for the two. –

Flowers grow on the grave. Gentle, loyal.

This one reaches are. How soft is its skin,

Wet with dew are its outstretched scarred limbs.

It has a sharp tongue. Like my Mercutio."

Be shocked as Romeo and Juliet break up! Marvel at the strange spacing of their dialogue!

Be sad as Romeo and Mercutio are turned on by their families:

[Lady Montague] May they turn to cactuses! I care not!

But, truly, nothing is as good as "Ay, the salt! Halt the salt."

This one is short, but provides plenty of giggles.

Enjoy! :-)
