It's MPREG, but for once they've tried to explain why men can get pregnant, and they know about spelling and grammar. It's maths and history they can't handle. In 998 there is a plague. This is a Very Special plague - it kills mainly women, and causes the human race to produce far fewer female babies.

To quote: "By the year 1006 the human female population was less than a tenth of what it had been before the plague.... After the plague, only about one in every hundred births was a female."

Hmmm... right, my maths is poor, but given the very shaky estimates for population in Northen Europe being in the region of 20 million at absolute maximum in 1000... assume 50% female (though possiblity of residual female infanticide, so possibly lower). You have 10 million women. Only a tenth of them survive, so 1 million women. Only 1 in a hundred births is female. Population of western Europe will have probably wiped iteself out before discovering America (ignoring people called Eriksson), and Native Americans will rule the planet.

This is not the author's hypothesis. Author thinks that human race survies, and in the 20th century some men miraculously mutate to be able to become pregnant! Wow. Not even going to go into the changes that would be wrought on the course of history with an absence of a substantial female population. And, of course, since this is Lotrips, who else is blessed with this ability but Orlando Bloom.

Haven't worked up the courage to read beyond the prologue.
