The thing about American sports is that whilst theyre all enjoyable to play (particularly Basketball), watching them is a guaranteed cure for insomnia. Stats over-kill, scoring off every attack, stop start action.Because of their short concentration span, a 50 minute game like Basketball has to be broken up into little bits so it lasts about 8 hours. There's also absolutely no atmosphere which means you simply can't get excited about any particular team. And incidentally the team names are ridiculous.

I think its good that Americans treat the World Cup like a joke. If they ever get into it the money men will want it to be more appealing to them. Mark my words we'll be playing in all seater indoor arenas, having cheering lead by piped in music watching games between the England Knights and the Germany Crusaders that are divided into 4 quarters plus 2 time outs per team. And we won't need to worry about who has been responsible for the most 70 degree passes at a length of over 8 yards.And of course something will need to be done to ensure at least 15 goals per match, most likely allowing outfield players to use their hands as well as goalkeepers

Piss off Sepp Blatter with your attempts to make football more global. With the possible excpetion of a coupld of more credible challengers from Africa (they bring a bit more colour and play attacking football)its global enough as it is.

1. You might enjoy the sport if you understood it. Playing it every now and again hardly means that you understand the sport.

2. Stats over-kill. I agree on that point.

3. Scoring off of every "attack". I'm not sure what you mean here, but I think you mean that somebody scores every time that they're on "offense". This simply isn't true. Maybe you're confusing the number of points awarded with the number of times a team scores (i.e. in American Football, a touchdown is 6 points).

4. Short attention spans. The "stop and start" nature of some of these games actually requires you to pay attention for longer periods of time. Moreover, I think your comments on this issue smack more of ignorance than reality. Show me some evidence (other than your own wishful thinking borne of a desire to feel better than someone else) to support this.

5. Money men. You've got a point here. This kind of person ruins sports. There are enough "purists", however, to make sure that the money men don't completely pasteurize the fun out of sports.

6. Globalization. I'm not sure what your concern is here. If you're worried about the level of competition rising, toughen up and compete. If you're just spewing, you're the one who should piss off.
