Subject: The reason the face-off was in front of the team rather than mano-a-mano was because Keane had already blurted his whinges to the Irish Times behind McCarthy's back. It was Keane who brought it into the public domain. I believe sincere contrition should be greeted with forgiveness, but from what I have seen of the whole farce, Keane is not a sincere person. As such, McCarthy should keep him out of the squad. Keane cannot win the World Cup on his own for Ireland, and if he's winding the team up, they are better off without him. No player is bigger than the team.
In reply to: Jelly 's message, "Is that the same "Irish Nation" , 96% of whom have backed Keane's return to the squad. You ask any players in that squad and they will tell you (if they're being honest) that without Keane they wouldn't have qualified. Just ask Germany and Cameroon if they are happy with Keane being out of the squad or not, that should give you a big hint of his worth to them. Keane is a tool, I agree with you (all) on that, but there is no way they are better off without him." on 11:33:37 05/28/02 Tue

And of course, Keane and McCarthy will both bring out "My World Cup Diary" type books (Roy's will obviously be a short book full of asterisks). -- CTW, 11:50:35 05/28/02 Tue (62.60.119.99)
