Poland's reserves thrash World Cup team 5-1

WARSAW (Reuters) - Poland coach Jerzy Engel has picked his World Cup first team only to watch them get thrashed 5-1 by the squad's reserves in a practice match.

But Engel is not worried, saying his players were tired after a tough training camp in Germany ahead of Saturday's final warm-up match in Warsaw against Estonia.

"There's no way you can judge the players. They were tired from training and lacked freshness," Engel was quoted as saying in Friday's Gazeta Wyborcza daily.

Of Engel's first-choice line-up, only Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek, nursing a sore knee, watched from the sidelines and was replaced by Adam Matyszek.

In his first team he fielded defenders Tomasz Hajto, Tomasz Waldoch, Jacek Bak and Michal Zewlakow.

In midfield, Jacek Krzynowek, Radoslaw Kaluzny, skipper Piotr Swierczewski and Marek Kozminski took the field. Up front, Emmanuel Olisadebe played alongside Pawel Krzyszalowicz.

Olisadebe scored once, while for the reserves midfielder Tomasz Rzasa of UEFA Cup winner Feyenoord netted a hat-trick.

Poland play co-hosts South Korea, Portugal and the United States in Group D of the finals.
