Subject: Footballer found hanged from goalposts

A professional footballer has been found hanged from goalposts of a football ground.

The body of goalkeeper Stephen Morris, 37, was found by a relative at Ashvale football fields in Tredegar.

Mr Morris, who played for Cardiff City FC as well as Division Two Club Plymouth Argyle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gwent Police say they attended after being called by the ambulance service.

Mr Morris's body was later taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny and Gwent coroner David Bowen has been informed. Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

[> [> Its the close season so maybe the goalposts have been taken down and stood on their side. So he would have tied the rope round the post not the crossbar. Its certainly a puzzle. He was crap anyway - he'd have shot himself but he would probably have dropped the gun. -- Stephos Sunbed, 18:39:44 05/21/02 Tue (213.122.181.214)

Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death'. Sort of suggests it was suicide so therefore why would he want to pull his hands upto the crossbar. Sort of defeats the object -- Stephos Sunbed, 18:38:13 05/21/02 Tue (213.122.138.248)
