Subject: The battle nears its end

Somehow Marz managed to keep the unnatural weariness he felt at bay while the hack and slash continued in the dining room. Two of the incredibly fast moving zombies came at him with their swords slicing through the air wildly. Normally, Marz would have handled such a challenge with ease, but he was too weak from blood loss to fend them off properly. After receiving lacerations across both his arms, anger arose within him. It fueled him with the burst of energy he needed to finally end the lives of the bastards.

As the zombies toppled to the floor, Marz drew in a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment. It would be so damned easy to collapse right where he stood, but he knew he had to keep going until the threat to him and his friends was eliminated. When he opened his eyes he found himself staring at the flames that licked across the tablecloth, wondering how it had started on fire.

At the sound of a nearby voice Marz spun around, a little too quickly for his own good. His body swayed as the room grew dark for a moment. Mentally he screamed at himself to remain alert. There was no way in hell he was about to give into unconsciousness now! He blinked at the face before him, relieved to see that it belonged to Tristan. The dragon looked pale, and although his clothing was splattered with blood, none of it seemed to be his own.

"You look like shit again," Marz teased, before he caught sight of Corum's unconscious form. Immediately, he ran to intercept a zombie that sprang forth to loom over his friend with an axe in its hands. They engaged in battle, with Marz stumbling over his own feet a number of times before his blade finally plunged into the thing's stomach.

Jeremy and Tia were back on their feet, fighting off more of the foes while Eremis pulled a sleeping Justin off his chair, away from the burning table. The healer managed to drag the prone body of the heavy merc across the floor, stopping a good distance away from the raging battle.

The sword fell from Marz's hand when it suddenly became too heavy to hold. PICK IT UP, you weak assed bastard! his mind screamed. He sunk to his knees, grasping the hilt in his hand before turning to check on Corum. The skull-staff wielder had a deep gash on his leg and a nasty bruise on the head, but his pulse was strong and his breathing steady.

Relieved, Marz got to his feet and shoved his sword into the back of a zombie attacking Tia. Using what little strength he had left, he severed the thing's spine before withdrawing his blade. Marz gave the petite thief a half grin. Unable to fight off the weakness he felt any longer, his eyes rolled up into his head, and then he collapsed on top of Corum when consciousness was finally ripped from him.

Somewhat dazed, Tia stared at the blood that covered the back of the ex-gang leader's shirt. A yelp from Jeremy drew her attention and she turned to see that he received a minor cut across the forearm. Gripping her sword tightly, she moved to help the otherworldly youth destroy the zombie he was fighting.

Ravin was also involved in hand-to-hand combat with one of the creatures. The leg injury hampered his movements a bit, yet he was still faster that his opponent. His quickness saved him from getting injured by the zombie's blade. Once he found an opening, he killed his assailant with one well-placed sword thrust to his heart.

When Ravin caught sight of the burning table, he ran into the kitchen to retrieve a bucket of water. A few moments later he was dousing the flames in the dining room while keeping a wary eye open for more attackers. Dozens of fake zombie bodies littered the floor. The few that remained were now being taken care of by Sarra and his other companions that continued to fight bravely.

Ravin frowned when he saw Eremis trying to hide behind the rather large, unconscious body of the merc in a far corner. Apparently, the healer still hadn't gotten over his fear of battle. That certainly didn't bode well for Marz, Corum, or anyone else that got injured during the skirmish and needed immediate attention. Obviously, they couldn't rely on Eremis to attend to any wounds while combat was still going on. Ravin was all thumbs when it came to the healing arts. He hoped that someone else in the group possessed such abilities and had enough guts to use them amidst a battle scene; otherwise they might suffer needless deaths within their little group due to simple blood loss.
