Erlic had awoken only to find himself in the bed next to Dalo, and staring at Queen Kazabet, who stood before the bed accompanied by Rowan. Erlic’s injury felt basically like a throb at the moment, but more important, he didn’t feel drained as he had when finishing his healing on Dalo. Taking a good look at the beast master, he was thankful that his mind message had been received by Laurel, for Eremis had been here to stitch up Dalo’s wounds. Now that he looked at his own wound, Eremis had done a good job on both of them.

Erlic watched as Dalo returned to a very deep sleep. Erlic would have to thank the queen for her intervention in healing those that needed it. He took a deep breath, and tried standing, noting that he was fine, and not hampered by any signs of dizziness. He turned, and faced Dalo, glad that the beast master would live to see another day, and more women. The thought left the assassin with a smile, as he left the room, and headed for his own. He quickly removed his top, and replaced it with a clean one. Feeling much better, but still a little tired, he decided to go back downstairs, and join the others.

The attempt by the unknown zombies had taken everyone by surprise, and he still felt discouraged he hadn’t seen the signs earlier. Again, he presumed it was his duty to protect the rest of the party, for it was he that had brought them on this journey. The thought brought other matters to the forefront. Eremis was still secluded in his cloak of liquor especially whenever trouble happened. The youth was too afraid to face the danger himself, and would never be able to until he faced up to his own demons.

The assassin thought back to the time when Eremis had transformed, selling his soul to the devil. At the time Eremis was a totally different individual; powerful, conceited, and totally uncaring towards those he had befriended. It was Erlic, and a small group that managed to venture into the world of Hades, where they fought countless demons until they came upon the resting place of Eremis’ soul. With luck, and fortune they managed to retrieve it, and return it to its rightful owner. Since then, Eremis had never been the same, constantly belittling himself. The youth needed to face his own fears in order to get on with his life.

This brought up the necessity of the need of a healer, someone who could not only fight, but could heal with the greatest of confidence under enormous pressure. The only person that came to mind was Valhorek. Perhaps it was time for Eremis to resume his healer’s apprenticeship with Foran, who now shared the healing practice with Val at the Medieval Tavern. It didn’t matter if Eremis took the news hard or not; what mattered was that the group have a healer at their disposal, so that if another occurrence ever happened again, they’d have some reliable to count on. It was a subject that needed a little more thought, and Erlic was bound, one way or another, to handle the situation.

The assassin made his way down the stairs until he came to the dining room. He could see the immediate improvements as the queen’s zombies had already started the clean up procedure. The rest of the group, with the exception of Marz, Tristan, and Jeremy, where gathered around at the table. Erlic took a seat next to Laurel, and poured himself a glass of wine. He noted that they were eating sandwiches, food that they probably prepared on their own since the queen had just arrived.

Erlic whispered into Laurel’s ear. “I want to thank you for sending Eremis to tend to Dalo. He was in very bad shape.” Sitting next to her, she related what the queen had found out about the evil zombies. So that was the danger his mentor had warned him about. He would remember to be more vigilant the next time.

Erlic noted the appearance of Sarra, Kandarin, and Neramii also at the table’s gathering, and as he looked around, he noted some happiness, although coupled with tiredness, that the group was somewhat back to ordinary, if the term ordinary was appropriate. It suddenly dawned on Erlic that he was hungry, and he joined in the dinner by grabbing one of the sandwiches.

Corum didn’t know what had happened, but suddenly Tia held up a sandwich to him. He had tried to drink the java earlier, but she had taken it away from him. He still didn’t know what had happened, but suddenly she took a bit of the sandwich, and then held it for him to eat. She then held the cup of wine to his lips to drink. Maybe he was still dreaming….naw, it couldn’t be. Why would all these people be in his dream? If it were up to him, he would have made sure that only Tia was in his dream. He still loved those eyes of hers.

“Thanks,” Corum stated as his hand touched hers in order to take the sandwich. “I’m sure you’re hungry as well, and you can’t eat if you’re feeding me.” He winked at the elf, and held the sandwich to her mouth for her to take a bite. Just as she was about to take a bite out of it, Corum quickly withdrew the sandwich, and kissed her on the cheek. “Thanks for helping.” He then offered her the sandwich.
