Author: Rowan
Subject: Desperate plea for help (sort of)
In reply to: Ravin 's message, "Appropriately alone" on 13:34:25 11/13/01 Tue

Rowan glanced over at Sarra as she entered the kitchens, flashing him and Ravin a smile before inquiring about the liquor cabinet. He threw her a cheeky grin when Ravin silently pointed the way. The grin fell from his face, however, when the other thief stumbled to his feet as if to leave.

“We'll talk again Rowan,” he said, gripping his bottle in one hand, “when I'm not so shit-faced!” Rowan stuck his tongue out at the retreating figure, but still consented to toast his own nearly empty bottle in his direction. Ravin was a good drinking buddy, if a bit on the gloomy side. In any case, he was pretty sure the next time around he could work him up pretty good, at least make him want to stay long enough for his tongue to loosen adequately. No use having a drinking fest if nobody wanted to spew their guts out by the end of the night (and no, he did not mean that in the literal sense of the word).

Rowan sighed, already beginning to fall back into the not so happy mood he’d been seized by before Ravin had begun speaking about being a thief. He really wished Ravin had stayed longer and chatted with him instead of running off like that. It bothered him that maybe the other man didn’t find his company to be that enjoyable. Maybe he’d bugged him too much about that thieving business. Truly, all Rowan wanted was a friend to hang out with. Ravin was the only guy in the group who appeared to be about his own age, except maybe for that other big human, Dalo. Rowan tended to avoid really tall humans, since they kind of intimidated him a bit.

Of course, there was Tia, who seemed to like him a lot, but then, she was a woman. And, now that Rowan realized that he was somewhat attracted to her, he had freaked her out by kissing her without any warning. Once he liked a girl, it was really hard for him to hold back for some reason. This was different the other way around; when it was a guy he had his eye on, it was usually someone he’d been friends with for a long while, so they’d at least have a mutual kinship and understanding.

He’d never had very many women friends. And the women that he usually went after, romantically speaking, were generally one night stand affairs---courtesans, maids, prostitutes (when he was really desperate), or just passing acquaintances. So it was kind of hard to figure out where he stood with Tia, wanting to just hang out with her and be friend, but at the same time wanting to beg her to let him kiss her again and again and again.

And then before that, he’d met Jeremy. Jeremy was just a kid, though, and a rather stupid one at that, who’d willingly attempt something bordering on rape on the object of his desire. Aside from that one major mishap, the kid was just plain silly, and while Rowan loved having someone who might possibly look up to him in some small way, he knew he should be acting more “mature,” and choosing friends who were at his emotional level of experience. Besides, he’d really screwed things over with Jeremy, too, in the bedroom a few hours back. Maybe not in Jeremy’s mind, but certainly in his. He really, really shouldn’t have done what he’d done---or at least wanted to do.

“That’s it,” he said, tossing his hands up in the air, “Nobody to love me but my mean ol’ sister, and her not even likin’ the look of me most times.” He exhaled dramatically, still too caught up in feeling sorry for himself and missing his old friends who loved him just because he was Rowan. A noise behind him alerted him that he wasn’t alone, and suddenly he remembered that other girl---Sheera…no, Sarra---had come in just before Ravin left, and was probably browsing the liquor cabinet.

“Heeey,” he drawled, though not entirely on purpose. He did his best to stand up, leaving the now empty bottle of brandy on the floor, and sought Sarra out with his eyes. “Wanna do me a favor?” he asked, when he had her attention. “You think you could maybe…” He closed his eyes and paused briefly, waiting for the hiccup he felt coming before going on. “…maybe help me to my room or wherever so I don’t fall on my face goin’ upstairs?”

That’s when he remembered he was supposed to meet Kazabet tonight! “Cripes,” he muttered, shaking his head, although that wasn’t necessarily a good idea, since it made him unbelievably dizzy, “Old witch can pleasure herself for all I care.” She’s probably into necrophilia or some shit, anyway, he thought with a grin.

“Pleeeease?” he asked, turning his innocent expression on Sarra. Okay, so he could probably make upstairs to his room with only minimal difficulty, but he wasn’t about to pass up a chance like this. Besides, he hardly knew Sarra, and that would make it all the easier to ask her if she wouldn’t mind staying with him when they got back to his room. Oh, yeah, and the inebriation thing helped, too.
