In reply to: Ravin Rue 's message, "The agony of a hangover" on 14:07:33 11/14/01 Wed

Erlic awoke with a slight headache as the rays of the sun beat down upon his face. His mouth felt as if he had been traveling the dessert sands without water. He slowly got to his feet, although a bit unsteadily, and quickly splashed some water onto his face. This would not do, especially for someone like himself who preferred to remain in control of what he was doing at all times.

Once the water liberated him from the shadows of sleep, he quickly noted that Ravin had already woken, and was somewhere within the palace. He stole back to his own room, changed clothes, and immediately went downstairs to the kitchen for a glass of juice. Although his thirst had been quenched, he still did not feel his best. He drained another glass of juice before heading outside.

He squinted against the sunlight wondering why on earth he had drank so much the night before. Rather than think for the moment, the assassin immediately started to practice yoga, to free his mind, and to relax his already tense, and still sleepy body. The assassin sat on the ground, making sure he was away from anyone or anything that might distract him. Once fully relaxed, Erlic went into one of the many forms of yoga that he had learned, deciding today to practice Karma Yoga.

For every effect there was a cause, and the student realized that he, in his present life situation, was experiencing the effects of a number of causes, which he had entertained, and enacted. The dedication of one’s self, one’s actions, thought, words, and feelings were offered.

Once fully relaxed, Erlic started through the many exercises this particular yoga dictated, slowly coming to terms with himself, and feeling his body start to relax, and respond to his wishes. He had practiced this many times in the early morning simply to realize how to face any new complication that might arise during the course of the day.

Erlic quickly moved toward another set of exercises, these allowing him the ability to stretch, and become whole at the same time. His mentor had shown him a style where no one could even budge the little old man. His mentor had stood like a tree, as if his feet were rooted to the ground, and try as someone might, they simply could not knock the man down. Erlic was impressed with that movement, and had been practicing, whenever he had the time, the exercises to replicate that feat. Although not nearly as perfect as his mentor, he had learned the movements carefully, and precisely, and now one hour after starting the exercises, the assassin felt relaxed, invigorated, and refreshed, with no signs of any type of hangover.

Erlic sat done, and meditated to usher in the close of the day’s exercises. He thought about Ravin’s words from the previous night, and wondered if his fellow thief was right. He didn’t know what he had said to anger the druid, nor did he know what manner of speech Laurel had referred to, that he should use. Perhaps he still had to learn about the women’s ways before attempting, or formulating any plan. He didn’t see anything wrong in what he did, or in what he had said, but obviously the druid had. For now, he would have to put that behind him for he had more important matters to contend with.

He stood up, walked back into the palace, and walked into the kitchen, where he immediately poured himself some java, surprised that he was the first person there. After drinking one cup he was about to pour himself another cup when Queen Kazabet entered the dining room.

After exchanging morning pleasantries, Erlic asked if he could speak with her on a matter of business. The queen ordered some food to be brought in, and sat down opposite the assassin. Erlic quickly poured her a cup of the java, and handed it to her. After being thanked, Erlic proceeded to inform the queen of how he had two individuals that needed to be transported back to Bizmar, with the possibility of one individual returning to Neromba. He went into a brief explanation of how Dalo was needed elsewhere, and how Eremis was still too young to be practicing healing on the road, and how Valhorek, Eremis’ new replacement could be a valued addition to the group.

The queen nodded, replying to Erlic that she would think on the matter over breakfast. Erlic was glad for the brief opportunity to indulge in the queen’s graciousness.
