Tristan was finally beginning to relax. The blood and sweat from yesterday’s skirmish in the dining room had had all night to become caked to his body, but after a good scrubbing, he was once again cleansed of their presence. No doubt they’d get into more trouble by the end of the day, but at least now he could relish in the feeling of being clean. More importantly, he was alone. So maybe he was a little anti-social, maybe just painfully shy about some things, but damn it, he liked to take a bath in private. So sue him.

He leaned his back against the edge of the pool, sighing wistfully. He’d rather hoped Marz would join him, though. It was kind of the point in dragging him along with him; otherwise, he would just stolen out of bed by himself. He probably went back to the room and passed out, he thought, rolling his eyes, I guess I was a little abrupt this morning.

He was halfway dozing himself when a sudden voice alerted him to a new presence. “Good morning, Tristan. I guess you’re an early riser like me, huh?” His eyes flew open to meet the friendly gaze of Eremis, who was actually in the pool with him! The healer must move quietly when he wanted to---or else Tristan had fallen asleep briefly.

“What are you doing here?” he asked, his shoulders slumping somewhat. “Didn’t you see the…oh.” He frowned; apparently, he should have put “No men,” on the door, as well. His anger melted somewhat as he glanced over at Eremis, embarrassment once again trickling into him at being seen naked, especially by someone he’d once had a major crush on.

He growled to rid himself of the feeling and began sponging more soap onto himself, even though he was already clean. “I was supposed to be the only early riser,” he continued with a scowl, though it wasn’t directed at the healer. “Well, me and Marz, anyway.” He sighed. “I’m tired of having to share my baths with five other people for the past few days. Just once, I wanted to get up early and enjoy it by myself. And I wanted Marz to come, too, so maybe he and I could…”

He blushed and realized he’d actually been letting his mouth run. Eremis definitely did not want to hear what he wanted to do with Marz in the warm waters of the bathhouse. A sudden thought struck him, perhaps because his mind was already running along that same direction.

“Oh no!” he yelped, giving Eremis an alarmed look. “Marz! I’d never hear the end of it if he saw you and me alone like this!” As quickly as possible, he got out of the pool and dried himself briskly off with a towel before slipping a robe on. He gave Eremis one more sheepish smile before grabbing his things and leaving the room, crossing the hall to the men’s room.

He almost laughed to see Marz passed out on a bench. He walked up to the nearby bench he was lying on and knelt down beside it. “Wake up, sleepyhead,” he muttered, shaking him with one hand. A grin came to his face when Marz’s eyes opened, and he leaned down and gave him a kiss, thinking nothing of the gesture since he didn’t realize there were other people in the room now.

“I’m starved,” he added with a grimace. “I’m gonna get some breakfast as soon as I get dressed. Hopefully, the queen will be serving something besides fruit and pastry!”

Rather surprisingly, his good mood had returned, though he wasn’t quite sure why. Maybe I’m starting to finally lighten up a little, he thought with a happy smile, Maybe I’m becoming more mortal!
