Subject: I did NOT want to see that
In reply to: Marz 's message, "Crystal Ball" on 10:31:24 04/02/02 Tue

Tristan had the ability to eat, drink, and smoke at the same time. So by the time Marz finally lit up, he was already starting to relax a lot more, though he was careful to nurse the cigarette for as long as possible. The tobacco Jeremy used in these things was very similar to some sort of very weak hallucinogen, so sucking the life out of it would have him giggling like a schoolgirl in no time, which, in Tristan’s eyes, was not a cool thing to do.

He was pleased to see Tia stand up and dance with Saras; she was such a great dancer! He could always appreciate a person with natural rhythm. A good dance had the ability to become as intense as sex without really touching, and both she and the genie obviously possessed that talent. Maybe that’s why Tristan had always liked to dance so much—it was a way to be physically close to someone you were attracted to without having to reveal your inner feelings.

He made a face when Jeremy stood up, too, a little disturbed with the way his body reacted to watching the boy rubbing his hips against the pretty genie’s. People as ugly and annoying as him should not have the ability to transform into seductive eye candy like that. Even more irritating was the fact that Marz was so obviously turned on by the sight, giving Tristan the strong urge to dump his glass of wine in his lover’s lap.

Fortunately, their attention could be momentarily diverted from the dancers by the crystal ball Marz pulled out of his pocket. Tristan got excited when Ravin explained that it could probably be used to see people and places from far away, and he hurriedly urged Marz to make it find Eremis. Marz shrugged and complied readily enough, indulging his overwhelming concern for the healer as always. He recoiled slightly when the image appeared, for Eremis didn’t look too good, and neither did the other person in the picture.

Immediately, he stiffened when Marz said he recognized the healer’s companion, but he relaxed when it became apparent that the strange boy with the horns was no real threat. Maybe Eremis had found a friend somehow. Tristan shook off the feeling of jealousy that thought invoked, determined not to dwell on the fact that they were both sitting on a bed together, too. Even if Eremis had become more open-minded, he wasn’t going to be jealous about it. As much as he cared about the healer, he was no Marz, and no one else ever would be.

He lifted his head away to stare at his lover when he said something about Tegol. Tristan felt confused. How could he tell he wasn’t with Tegol anymore? Hadn’t he said that Eremis was probably the latest acquisition of one of the higher paid mercenaries? Tristan growled and stared at the image again. Whoever he was, he certainly was dressing the healer up pretty badly! Although that boy next to him, he wasn’t dressed that way. It made Tristan wonder just what the hell was going on between them, anyway.

He frowned and then scowled when he heard Marz say something about what a fine-looking whore their friend made. “I think we’ve seen enough of Eremis for now,” he said, giving him a dark look. “Let’s try to see someone else.” He thought for a second, then put his hand on the crystal around Marz’s. “Show me Dalo,” he commanded it, concentrating hard on the beastmaster’s face in his head.

The crystal ball reacted more sluggishly, as if it were slowly running out of steam, but eventually a new image emerged. Tristan blushed hotly when they did indeed see Dalo, lying on top of a beautiful woman in bed as the two of them moaned and writhed against each other, obviously caught in the intimate act of making love.

“Yuck!” he cried, shoving the crystal away toward Marz. “put that stupid thing away. All it does is show you stuff you don’t really want to see.”

He tore his eyes away from the scene in the globe, bringing his gaze back up to the dancers before him. Rowan had finally stood up, and had his arms wrapped around Tia, his fingers running gently down her bare back as they stared into one another’s eyes. The pair were starting to rival Jeremy and Saras in the intimacy of their dance, and Tristan really didn’t know how much more he could take of this.

He glanced at Marz, who was staring at the four dancers, too, the crystal globe still sitting in his hand. Feeling suddenly nervous, he moved to push Marz’s slightly open mouth shut again, drawing the ex-gang leader’s attention.

“Come on,” he muttered, lacing his fingers through his lover’s and leaning protectively against him. “Maybe we should go work on those charkas now.”
