While Marz mused aloud about Eremis and his current condition, Tristan remained silent beside him, listening carefully while piecing his own thoughts together. His street savvy lover had managed to deduce a lot from that momentary glimpse they’d managed: obviously, Eremis was unhurt, with friends, and in a safe place; that is, not Tegol’s clutches. The only thing bothering Tristan was the friend part. If Eremis was supposed to be all right now, then what was he still doing with that snake-hearted Kisa?

He realized, of course, what the answer must be: Eremis loved her. But after all she did to him… Could anyone be that naďve? He didn’t think so, not even Eremis. Nobody could possibly…well…all right. Maybe he should hold on a minute and stop being so hypocritical here. He stared into Marz’s eyes as he spoke, wanting to kiss the words from his lips for some crazy reason or other, just to taste his mouth on his tongue again. He knew, at that very moment, that no matter what Marz did to him, no matter what he said or didn’t say, that he’d always want to be with him, follow him until he couldn’t follow any longer and had to crawl on hands and knees to just be near him.

But did Eremis truly love Kisa that much? Well, obviously that was just something he couldn’t know right now. Whatever the case, he had to believe Marz’s take on things and accept that his friend was okay for now. After all, what could he really do about it? Nothing, except lie in bed and worry over it, that’s all.

But Marz is right about one thing, he thought to himself, as he tugged his shirt over his head and slowly did up the lacings. Why doesn’t he go back home to the tavern? What’s keeping him there? For some reason, that particular puzzle really bugged him, and he wished there were something he could do to solve it.

Tristan’s mind was buzzing with thought as they made their way outside and returned to the camp in the center of the cavern. Erlic was there, quietly sipping java and enjoying the Jann-cooked breakfast. A very refreshed and happy Tia was present, too, along with a rather sour-faced Jeremy. Tristan hoped that meant Rowan had dumped him, although that didn’t bode well for the satisfied look on Tia’s face.

He accepted the mug of java he was handed, his eyes following Marz as he turned to speak to Erlic. “I closed the first chakra, sensai.” Tristan’s sense of proud welled up along with his lover's as they both reveled in their success. True, Marz had done all the work, but Tristan was still pleased with himself for helping him through it in a way he was positive no one else really could. But when Marz mentioned the second chakra, he felt a funny quelling in his stomach. That one definitely might prove to be a bit more difficult. Just thinking about those papers describing what would happen made him blush! Well, whatever the case, he’d just make sure the doors were bolted shut, and no one else was in the room but Marz and himself, of course. Then if he couldn’t control his own reactions, there’d be nothing to live down except the gentle teasing of his own lover.

He was so deep in thought, he missed Marz’s question regarding Corum’s treasure hunting game. Otherwise, he would have immediately piped up and declared that he had to have won, hands down. Instead, his thoughts turned toward their earlier experience in bed and what it could possibly mean. A small, quiet smile curved onto his face. Well, obviously it meant that there was something intrinsically very, very special about his relationship with Marz. But it also had other implications. What could they do together? Somehow, they’d managed to create that same feeling without actually physically merging, but Tristan had no idea how that had happened, so couldn’t begin to imagine how to recreate it. Naturally, he adored every intimate moment he spent with his lover, so there was no problem there—but it would be nice if they could make the experience last just a bit longer. If they could just get some control over it, particularly Marz…

That’s when he had it. The second chakra! The parchment taught that the student must learn to…well, hold it, to put it bluntly. Somehow Tristan knew that was the key. Learning to close that chakra could be the next step in their both learning to control their combined powers.

The topic was much too embarrassing for him to consider much longer, though, even on his own. His face was already burning red again. “I’m such an idiot,” he muttered to himself. He sighed a bit irritably and turned to Marz, casually looping his arm through his without really thinking about it. It was getting so much easier to be close to him now. Not being able to touch him was almost like not being allowed to love him, and that was just plain unthinkable.

“That second chakra is the key,” he said excitedly. “Our key to helping Eremis!” He blushed slightly again, lowering his face. “Maybe…maybe you could talk to Erlic later, in private, about what we did. But I think if you can gain control of the second chakra, we’ll be able to last longer, and I’ll be able to have better control of what we can do. We might be able to actually talk to him and ask him questions!”

He was really excited about his idea, and almost wished they could put the search for the branches on hold while he and Marz practiced a bit more. He smiled a bit sheepishly; well, of course he always wished they could slow down and gain some more time together, but this was different. This was business. Very pleasant business, he thought, still unable to wipe the smile off his face.

“Oh, yeah,” he returned his attention to Marz. “Can I have that crystal ball thingie? Then I could keep track of him and warn everybody if something bad happened.” He gave his lover a pleading look. “I promise I won’t break it Marz, I really do.”

From the corner of his eye, he noticed Rowan finally joining them. The elf didn’t sit by Jeremy and he didn’t sit by Tia, either. Nor did he even once raise his eyes toward Marz. He simply collected his breakfast and java and began eating, his gaze riveted upon his plate. Who’s the sour puss now, pussy cat? Tristan thought with a smirk, wishing he had the guts to say that aloud.
