Val immediately followed Tia as she called for his assistance with Tristan. As soon as he arrived next to Marz who was comforting Tristan, and Corum who stood near by, he quickly assessed the damage that had been suffered by Tristan while in dragon form.

It was quite an unusual sight to see arrows sticking out of the dragon’s shoulder and leg, and upon further evaluation, realized that there were wounds on his back, which were now covered by his tunic. He, and Marz helped Tristan to a sitting position, and Val quickly went to work on the leg, which appeared to be the worst.

“Why don’t you go check out one of the buildings,” Val stated to Marz. “Perhaps it’ll have a cot in it for Tristan to rest once I’m finished.”

“C’mon Corum,” Marz stated as the two headed off toward the nearest hut. As they left, Val started to work his magic on Tristan. He realized the dragon’s body didn’t work well with some of the herbs he used, so he decided to cut down the dosage considerably. Val also realized that like Marz, Tristan had a way of healing at a rapid pace.

He examined the leg wound, and decided to numb the area. Since the head of the arrow had protruded through the leg, he snapped off the head, before pulling out the shaft. Fortunately there were no severe internal injuries in the leg, and Val quickly sanitized the wound before stitching it closed, and applying a salve, and clean bandages to it.

He started to remove Tristan’s tunic regardless of the man’s resistance. Once off he examined the wound, and that was when he noticed the numerous scratch marks that covered his back. He went to work on the shoulder first, and realized that the arrow had protruded through some tendons, and was lodged within the shoulder against his bone. Val pulled out a rag, and looked at Tristan. “This is going to hurt, regardless what I give you,” the healer explained. “Bite down on this, and I’ll try to be quick about it.”

He placed the rag into the dragon’s mouth, and carefully went to work, numbing the entire shoulder area. He waited a bit longer than normal, before pulling out a tiny scalpel. In order to pull the arrow out, without ripping the tendon apart, would require an incision. He only hoped that he wouldn’t encounter any further complications.

Once satisfied with the time elapsed, Val cut into the shoulder area just enough for the arrow to pass through. He slowly, and carefully pulled it out, watching, and using his psychic powers to insure no further damage was done to the man. Once free, he quickly used his psychic powers to mend the tendon as best as possible. Only actual rest, and the dragon’s own healing process would allow the tendon to heal completely.

He used one of his psychic spells, bloodstop, to prevent further blood loss from the shoulder injury. Once it had been sanitized, he quickly set about suturing the wound closed, applying the salve to insure no further infection would set in, and carefully bandaged up the area.

He quickly took a cloth, and spilt some water from his water skin onto it before trying to gingerly wash away the multitude of wounds on the dragon’s back. Some of the wounds were deep, while others were merely surface scratches, but nonetheless, there was enough damage that would make the dragon quite uncomfortable.

He took care of the back injuries, applying the salve where needed, and bandaged it carefully, before replacing Tristan’s tunic. He decided not to lace it up for now, since there might be need to check on them later. He also removed the rag from the man’s mouth. He had certainly taken the brunt of the damage.

Marz returned with Corum, and explained that there were a couple of cots in the building close by. Val suggested to them that Tristan try to remain on his side due to the numerous injuries on his back, as well as the shoulder injury. He gave Marz just a quarter of what he normally gave humans in the form of herbs, and instructed the youth to mix it with water, and give it to Tristan.

Together Marz, and Corum, quickly assisted in half carrying Tristan to the house, where they laid him gingerly on the cot. Both of them decided to remain there, and rest as much as they could.
