When Argus pulled Marz away from the battle, he cursed the man until his throat was hoarse. It took an extreme amount of effort not to bash the idiot in the head for dragging him away from Tristan when the dragon needed protection.

"Hold blewdy still, will yer?" Argus said as he pulled him toward Val.

Once the man released his arm, Marz turned on him. "Don't ever do that again, moron!" he spat. He dropped his sword then grabbed Argus by the front of his shirt, forcing him to look at the arrow that protruded from his shoulder. "There's no blood gushing all over the place, and my guts ain't spilling out on the floor. Unless its gushing or spilling next time, don't come near me, got it?"

He shoved the priest away, retrieved his sword then hissed at Val, who immediately proceeded to pull the arrow from his shoulder. Sensing the youth's anger, the healer worked quickly, disinfecting and bandaging the wound in a matter of minutes. As soon as Marz had his shirt back on, he rushed into the battle again.

His thoughts were on Tristan and the need to fend off the numerous attackers that had swarmed at the dragon. A number of spiders seemed determined to prevent him from reaching his lover. Marz fought each one viciously; rage fueling his sword strikes. He earned a few gashes for his efforts, but the half dozen creatures he met along the way, paid with their lives for blocking his path to Tristan.

As he battled the foes that set up the barrier between him and his lover, Marz was relieved to see Corum aiding the dragon. By the time he reached Tristan, he was no longer in dragon form. "I owe you big time for helping him, Corum," he said, meeting his friend's eyes before kneeling down beside his soulmate. He glanced up at Rowan and Tia who stood there gaping like idiots. "Get the raking healer!" he shouted, making them both jump. Where the hell was that lunatic Argus now when he was really needed?

Tia scampered off, returning with Val a moment later. "Work your healing magic on him," Marz ordered. After setting down his bloody sword, he reached out for Tristan's hand, squeezing it lightly. He tried not to let worry consume him as he watched Valhorek tend to his lover's injuries.

*******

Once Jade eliminated the were-spider's archers the battle shifted in favor of the adventurers. Ravin carried the bow to the roof of another building then rained arrows down upon their foes until the quiver was empty. The thief wasn't that great of a fighter when it came to close combat with a sword, but he excelled with practically every type of missile-like weapon. Each arrow that flew from his bow hit critical spots on the spiders, killing them instantly.

When the arrows ran out, Ravin turned to the shurikens in the special case attached to his waist belt. Although he wasn't too good with the things yet, he managed to end the lives of two more spiders. His lack of proficiency left him with a number of cuts on his palms from the exceedingly sharp projectiles but none of them were deep enough to require stitches. He wiped his bloody hands on the sides of his breeches before making his way down from the roof. The battle was over. Dozens of spider carcasses filled the area along with the stench of burning flesh. Most of the bodies were reduced to ashes thanks to the intense heat of dragon fire.

Ravin went about the task of retrieving all of his weapons. A few of his knives were embedded in the smoldering carcasses, and too hot to touch without the aid of a cloth placed over his hand. A quick dipping in the water of the nearby hot spring cooled them off instantly.

Eventually, the thief made his way to Erlic and Jade. "Nice job getting rid of those archers," he said to the woman. After seeing the way that she had dispatched the creatures, Ravin was quite certain that she possessed mage abilities. He pointed to the steep incline in the distance that led up to a large hole. "We're going to have to cave in that entrance or post guards there since that seems to be the way the were-spiders get in here from the ruins above."

Ravin was about to say more, but clamped his mouth shut when he spotted Argus hovering over the prone body of Isobel. He broke into a run, kneeling beside the priest and the beautiful warrior a moment later. "How badly is she injured?" he asked, never taking his eyes off Isobel's face. Gently, he brushed her hair back away from her face and waited for Argus to speak.
