Subject: Water water everywhere
In reply to: Laurel Goldleaf 's message, "In my element" on 01:15:39 02/20/02 Wed

"You are a vain, insipid creature, as is natural to your kind," Laurel told the water creature.

Isobel hissed. "Do not anger it!" her eyes flashed, for she believed Laurel's words were an attempt at displaying her own superiority without regard to the consequences if the creature became upset. But fortunately it seemed to pay her words no mind, just as when Jade had unwisely called it a "big drip".

Isobel breathed a sigh of relief and turned to see if Laurel's answer had been correct. If not, she would volunteer herself for whatever punishment the creature had in mind.

*~*~*~*~*

The watery creature looked impassively at Laurel for a few moments, then finally spoke.

"Your answer is correct. However, do not think that I did not feel your touch on my mind. You have not solved the riddle yourself." It paused.

"However, nothing in my instructions specifies how an answer may be obtained. And so, the reward is yours." The being stretched out a hand. "Come. Claim your prize."

Jade stepped forward and eagerly held out her hand. "All right... give it here!" She said cheerfully.

The creature placed a small golden key in her hand. Jade looked at it. "What are we supposed to do with this? What does it open?" she said, a bit impatiently, as she showed the others the key.

"The answer is before you." The creature said as it slowly lowered itself back into the pool. Once it had become a pool of water again, the pool began to drain.

There, at the bottom, invisible when the water had covered it, was a large chest.

Jade looked down at it. "Well that's fine... now how do we get the darn thing up here? It's at least fifteen feet deep!"
