The guild master was actually enjoying the feeling of peace, and tranquility as he held Laurel in his arms. He had wanted to do this many times before, but was unsure of how the beautiful druid would react to such a close proximity with him. It was true that he enjoyed her company, her very presence, and yet on the other hand he was almost frightened of the woman, even though deep down he knew there was nothing to fear, but his own instabilities. But how did one really explain that to another person, especially a female such as Laurel?

He viewed her differently than the other women he had met. It made no difference that she was of noble breeding, rather, she was, or seemed in his opinion, totally in control of herself at all times, and possessed an air of confidence unseen in anyone he had ever met. She had that wonderful quality of coquettishness, but in a way to simply unnerve him. Not that he considered her a flirt, not by any stretch of the imagination. It appeared she had a power over him, and that was probably the fact that disturbed him the most. He had always led himself to believe that he was always under control despite the most severe situations, and yet when he found himself within her proximity, he felt he labored hard simply to survive whenever he was close to her.

Even now, he relished as his fingers stroked her head, and neck, trying to do his best to say to her I’m here to help anyway I can, but I don’t know how. All of his loneliness, and confusion welded together in one upsurge of devouring yearning, and yet the strange surge of affection he felt frightened him.

Laurel lifted her head, and gazed at him. Her deep green eyes showed intelligence, and independence of spirit, and yet managed to draw him into their depths. “You know, Erlic, we are friends, you and I. We promised we would be, some time ago, when you took me to your hidden place.” Erlic recalled that time. He had placed her in her bed, and believing that she was not of her own free will, had left her, rather than enjoy an evening together. He didn’t know the signs, and for that, had caused turmoil between he, and the druid. He couldn’t take it any longer, and simply flung her across his shoulder, and used a special scroll he had to teleport them to a place where they could be alone. So many times in the past he had wished for such an occasion, but had resolved it wasn’t his place to act in such a way.

He tensed somewhat as the thrill of her touch sent him into another area of emotion. He could not keep his eyes off of hers, and let her do as she pleased, until she laid her head back down on his shoulder. Her nearness was overwhelming as he struggled against this new, and uncertain feeling. “You keep coming to be beside me, Erlic, and yet leave me constantly in doubt of your true feelings. Do you find me so distasteful, now?”

He was filled with an unnatural calm as her lips lightly brushed against his neck, with strange, and disquieting thoughts beginning to race through his mind. He realized he was not prepared for this encounter, and realized he had already lost the battle.

“I have never wanted anything but to be your friend, and confidant,” Erlic tried to state in a whispered tone, and not succeeding at all. “I would hope some day we could be more than just friends, but I realize that you have your obligations as I have mine, and I would never want to…..”

He cut his words short as he slowly pulled her away so that he might gaze into her lovely green eyes once again. Her face was delicately carved such as a statue might be, and her red hair shimmered in the sunlight. He raised his hands, and gently placed them on the soft skin of her face, tracing the contours of her features. Slowly, he moved closer to her, his eyes penetrating hers, and relishing in her beauty, while continuing to knead her soft skin. He was torn between what his body wanted to do, and what he wanted to do, and soon simply gave in. He moved closer, continuing to stare at her, until his lips pressed against hers, and gently covered her mouth.

He released her face, and enveloped her in a tight embrace, enjoying the thrill, and the feeling that such a closeness could provide, heightened by the fact it was the druid, someone he cared for, someone he wanted to be close to, but was afraid, sometimes even terrified at the possibilities that she might scorn his attention. He no longer was in control, but under Laurel’s control, and he found the feeling totally irresistible, with no chance of turning away whatsoever. Although he thought he had made the first move to kiss her, she had been in complete control of him, with any resistance on his part totally dissolving away.

Languishing in her fragrance, he cared not for what was transpiring around him. For now it was the moment, and he was thrilled, and excited beyond belief. He was totally entranced by her compelling personage.

After what seemed an eternity, he gently, and slowly broke the kiss, moving away just slightly, but keeping his arms around her waist. The beating of his heart had increased in that infinite moment, and he wished that it would never end. “I would never consider you distasteful,” Erlic whispered as he gazed longingly into her eyes. “Rather, I thought it was you who considered me distasteful.”

He remained close to her, their mouths just inches away. He had kissed before, but with Laurel it was delightful, suspenseful, delicious, intriguing, and simply wonderful in ways he could probably never explain. A sudden fear suddenly crept into him as he realized his action, wondering just what Laurel had actually thought of the incident. He could only close his eyes in hopes she was still his friend, his Laurel, someone he could learn, and that was the significant word, with, and….. It was better to leave it alone. What he wished might not be what the druid wished for. He now saw her world in a different light, and possibly, could learn to understand her, with her help, if she would allow it.
