Laurel watched the reactions of her companions as Erlic related word for word what Dalo had told him. There were various expressions of intense concern and uncertainty, but most seemed to take the news in stride. It wasn’t until Ravin stood up and demanded some sort of warning be given to his family that things shifted subtly.

Soon, the thief was relaying the vision he’d had earlier, much to the distress of all those listening. Laurel gasped at all three images; that of the poor young healer being molested, the Rovers being attacked, and an innocent boy she had never met attempting to kill himself. Seconds afterward, Ravin spun on his heel and departed their company, obviously torn to pieces at these dark revelations.

Fortunately, Isobel quickly followed him, and she hoped that, through their newfound closeness, the woman could help Ravin calm down and sort through his feelings more rationally. A strange thought leapt into her head as she watched Isobel hurry after him, her new outfit just as skimpy and lacking in protection as the last one she’d worn. I’ll have to loan her some clothing, she thought, smiling slightly.

Tristan soon echoed Ravin’s example, after first snapping something at Marz. Tension was suddenly at all time high around the camp, and she was more than amazed to hear Argus offer his promise of aid, should they need it. At least she assumed that’s what he meant by being “at their disposal.”

“You are…a kind of priest?” she asked carefully, recalling that he’d referred to himself as an “acolyte,” almost a cleric. Acolytes, where she came from, were priests and priestesses in training, though Argus didn’t look at all like the godly type to her. “A priest with magic?” That made her smile. She thought she was the only magic-user in the group. How nice to share the role! “What sort of magic do you do?” But then she frowned. Perhaps that was not quite what he meant by saying he had some “tricks up his sleeves.” Ah well. She’d find out, now, if she could understand his response!

Like his sister, Rowan found the various reactions of his friends to be fascinating. Evidentially, ties to that Bizmar place ran deep, as evidenced by Ravin’s obviously upset reaction. Marz, the third supposedly hunted man, actually seemed the least affected, although Rowan was pretty sure he’d be up on his feet and chasing after his crybaby lover any second now.

“Cheer up, kiddo,” he said, moving to sit beside Tia when he saw her sigh with resolution. “I take it you’re going to stay to fight the good fight, huh?” He put an arm around her, hugging her lightly and giving her comforting little kiss. “It’s best not to worry about all the bad stuff too much, you know? Just think of all the things we’ll find in that ruined city. Then when we get back to the city, you’ll have a hundred ruby necklaces to replace the one Jeremy lost.”
