Argus was so dumbstruck by Erlic's announcement that he'd never heard of Kelkenney or Brytonland that he sat there, mouth open, for a long time before the rest of what the man had to say sunk in. But finally it did. By the gods, not only did these people have assassins after them, but now some sort of criminals as well! And... apparently many of these people were themselves criminals! This didn't actually bother him much... hadn't he been a nasty little thug himself before he'd heard the calling and joined the Temple? But now it was clear that not only were assassins stalking these people, some kind of crimelord had it in for them too. Silently he wondered what great offense he had given the gods that he seemed to be paying for... again.

He groaned. He wanted to get back home but apparently that wasn't possible right now. Since this Erlic man seemed to know quite a bit about this place, though, he might be able to help him once this fiasco was over.

Argus frowned, thinking. He rubbed his forehead and ran his hand down his face, momentarily finding the lack of beard to be startling. He looked around at the people by the fire. They had rescued him from that other world. He owed them a debt of gratitude, and it didn't look like they had any other clerics with them. He gazed at the beautiful Laurel, imagining some criminal slitting her throat to get at her friends. This made him shudder... no, he could not let that happen. Not to her... not to any of these people. Perhaps the gods had placed him here, now, for a reason.

When Ravin announced what he had "seen" in his visions (that explained his slack-jawed drooling), then hurried off followed soon by the hussy woman, Argus cleared his throat and spoke up.

"Ay know ay dun know yew people well... actually ay barely know yew at all... and yew dun know me. But it seems ay've beun thrown in with yew lot maybe by de gods themselves. Ay can't get back 'ome, now can ay?" He looked around at them, wondering if they could understand what he was saying. "Bugger it all, ay'm juss say'n dat you've got me 'elp, if yew need it. Ay'm a passable cleric, evun if ay'm only an acolyte... and ay've gorra few tricks up me sleeve. Right then... ay'm at yer disposal."

*~*~*~*~*

Barry listened to every word, groaning to himself. Well, maybe this was finally what he'd been sent to help the addle-cove with... maybe.

"Well, Chief... looks like we've got our work cut out for us," he said resignedly.
