"Are you all right?" Jeremy asked. Saras didn’t actually hear the words Jeremy spoke, but understood most of it, through the concerned sound of his voice and a warm, almost comforting weight on his shoulder.
Not wanting to worry the boy, he nodded his head weakly.
"What the heck just happened?"
I don’t know…. I wish I did! What happened, shouldn’t have happened.
“…I granted Ravin’s wish.” Sarosh said quietly, his dark brown eyes distant and narrowed as he fought off the unpleasant feelings the hollow, cold and magiclessness inside was doing to him. “…I just wasn’t expecting it. That’s all. I didn’t have proper control of the magic.”
I didn’t have ANY control over the magic… I didn’t know I could do wish-magic anymore.
“Sweet god of stealth!" Ravin cried. "I can read and write now! My thanks Saras,"
Sarosh nodded and managed a mumbled that resembled something of a ‘your welcome’ that was lost as Ravin asked around for a quill and parchment. It was probably better. Sarosh didn’t really feel like talking right now. He felt too empty inside, and too cold. In fact, he felt downright Ill and simply miserable.
As much as Saras relished attention, he felt that he was being watched curiously from thousands of eyes, although he knew there weren’t nearly that many around the campfire. Just Ravin and his friend’s who had welcomed and accepted him into the group. Nonetheless, Sarosh wished he could be alone to deal with his discomfort on his own terms. He didn’t know why he felt badly. He had never felt badly before… He wondered if this was some sort of new punishments the others had thought up for him, since he had made easy time the last couple of masters, even without his powers. Sarosh the Useless was also Sarosh the exceedingly lucky.
Sarosh felt as if he must have dozed for a while, since he only vaguely remembered someone helping him sip at a bowl of water, and people had stopped staring and gone about their business. He began to feel a bit better, wondering if that was due to the water he’d drank, or if his body was just getting used and numb to the feelings he’d been subjected to because of the wish. He wasn’t sure. He forced a smile and tried to look as ‘better’ as he could when Rowan asked about him. He was touched by the concern, and had he been feeling better would have taken the Elf’s hands and thanked him as warmly as he could, for the concern. Once Rowan had moved off to join Marz, Tristan and friend, he looked over at Jeremy, remembering the young man tell him about his love for Marz.
“Are you going to go join them?” he asked giving Jeremy a smile, finally feeling good enough to try to pass for cheerful again.
