Isobel was relieved to see that Ravin was apparently unharmed. At first she had thought that the genie had somehow attacked him, though of course that was ridiculous. When Ravin called for parchment and began scribbling away like some fevered man, she glanced at the slate, which he had set on the ground next to him. Isobel raised an eyebrow. Kyri? He must have a lover or wife back home. Since Ravin was obviously engrossed in his letter-writing, she excused herself and headed for the larger group, giving him privacy.
As Ebessa and her sister approached, Isobel admired their proud bearing and spirit. These women were certainly impressive!

The bowl for the water ceremony was passed around by Narur, Ebessa's sister, and Isobel sipped from it despite Justin's repulsive lips having touched it first (fortunately it had gone through several people before she had to drink from it). Then Ebessa briefed them on the religious zealots known as the Sharm and on the city of Twilight itself.

Isobel's eyes sparkled as Ebessa told them of the raids on the Sharm hunting patrols and guards. These women were clever as well, it would seem.

After the briefing was over, Isobel moved over to where the map had been drawn in the sand, studying it. She reflected that it was fortunate that they had happened upon a tribe of centaurs who knew a great deal about the city and what they could expect there. She wondered if these Sharm had looted the treasure, or if they protected it.

She glanced over at Ravin writing his letter and a sudden inspiration came to her. From her pack she pulled parchment and a magical pen she had acquired in one of the markets where she had signed on to her last caravan (she still winced a little at how that had turned out) and began copying the map onto the parchment.

She felt someone come up and stand next to her and, her eyes still on the parchment as she copied carefully, said, "It occurs to me that we might find a more portable version to be useful, no?"

*~*~*~*~*

Barry was enjoying the scenery in the centaur camp until all the dames announced that they were turning in for the day. "Ehhh... mind if I join you?" he asked one of the mares as she trotted by. She just kept going.

"Snooty little chits, ain't they?" he remarked to no one in particular.

He was eyeing Isobel, who was practically falling out of her top, as she drew her map so he was caught by surprise when Tia suddenly announced to Rowan that she and the addle-cove were going to take a lovey-dovey walk around the lake. He grinned and was about to make a lewd remark when suddenly something knocked him out of the air!

Barry hit the ground and rolled a few feet before he stopped, stunned, his face turned toward the dirt. "Oh for the... I've got DIRT in my eyes!" Suddenly something swatted him softly and he rolled over, looking right into the gaze of a furry feline.

"Meow," the cat said.

"Yeah, yeah, meow yourself, ya pikin' furbag!" The cat seemed startled as Barry floated up off the ground and dumped a large spider on its head. The spider dropped off the cat's head and the animal attacked and ate it! "Hey! That was supposed to... aww, pike it. Have a nice lunch!" And Barry floated off to find some way to occupy himself while Corum played kissy-face.

He caught sight of Justin sitting by the fire watching the centaurs with a leer on his butt-ugly face. Suddenly remembering his promise, Barry grinned and floated over to the merc. "Hey, Justin. Marz sends his greetings!" And he opened his mouth, spewing a swarm of fleas all over the smelly berk.

Cackling, Barry floated out of reach as Justin roared and lunged at him. "Hey! Don't kill the messenger!" He laughed as he floated up and out of reach.
