Subject: Methinks an hour is about 40 minutes too long
In reply to: Marz and Ravin 's message, "On the road again" on 10:28:42 01/03/02 Thu

Ravin's eyes scanned the area for any further threats from the mants while waiting for Val to arrive and see to Isobel's injuries. He thought about the woman's earlier words about the attack of the ant creatures possibly being a diversion, intended to slow them down. Could the assassins have somehow contacted such monstrosities and commanded them to do their bidding? Since he didn't know very much about the ways of assassins or how things (specifically magic) worked in the nation of Neromba, he supposed that anything could be possible. Naturally, the thought of the ant things working in cahoots with the so-called Slayer's organization put him more on edge.

He rolled his eyes when he saw the antics of Marz and the skull then shook his head when the merc and the youth got into a fistfight. Wasn't there enough evil in the world to battle to keep such hotheads happy? Must they take to fighting amongst themselves to satisfy their combative natures? Ravin was relieved to see Erlic finally put an end to the row before someone got severely hurt. He also breathed a sigh of relief once Val arrived to care for Isobel.

His gaze shifted to Tia, who was in the process of begging Laurel to retrieve the knife she had pulled from her sheath and flung at one of the mants. "It's part of the pair that I carry that once belonged to my father. They hold great sentimental value for me." She neglected to mention that the blades had been enchanted to hit anything they were thrown at with deadly accuracy ninety percent of the time. They had certainly saved her a lot of time by not having to practice her throwing skills very often. She had devoted that extra time to learning others things such as picking locks and pockets, with relative ease.

Since Ravin had seen Laurel throw the blade, he knew exactly where to find it. "I've got to retrieve a few of my own knives," he said, loud enough for the women to hear. "I'll recover your weapon as well, Tia." That brought a smile to the petite thief's pretty face.

Ravin sheathed his sword then suggested that Rowan keep his eyes open for trouble since everyone else seemed to be occupied with something at the moment. He took a quick swig of ale from his flask before setting out to reclaim the knives that were stuck in the carcasses of the mants.

When Erlic made a sudden announcement that they would rest here for an hour, he nearly fell over in shock. He hurried to the guildmaster's side. "I seriously think it would be unwise to stay here for an entire hour since there may be assassins tracking us at this very moment, and I'm sure the chieftain told them we were headed to the Sea of Salt. It might be best to leave as soon as Val finishes tending to everyone's injuries. I wouldn't mind carrying Isobel if she's too weak to walk. The faster we leave this place, the faster we reach the branches. Once we are away from the Sea of Salt we can slow our pace because the assassins won't know where we are heading from there."

The look on the guildmaster's face was enough to tell Ravin that he would think about what he had said. He watched Erlic start walking to where his student sat with Tristan then went about collecting the knives. A puzzled expression crossed his face when he saw Jeremy gathering up all the swords that the mants used. What the hell was the youth up to? If he weren't careful, he'd soon fall over from all the weight he was trying to carry.
