Subject: Leaving the swords behind

Marz rolled his eyes when Tristan told him he did not look like shit, because he knew better. Of course, the dragon was lying to make him feel better, and it worked somewhat. As long as his face, which had swollen to the size of a small melon, didn't gross out his lover, Marz was happy. Justin would look far worse once they got around to that rematch!

When Erlic beckoned Marz to join him he readily complied, anxious to learn why his sensai needed help. He sighed in relief after Erlic told him that his amplified hearing was caused by the first chakra. At least I'm not going crazy like I thought I was!

Following Erlic's orders, he closed his eyes and listened to the multitude of sounds around him. At first, it was extremely hard to distinguish anything, but soon the swishing of footsteps through dirt and sand became predominant. He didn't think much about it until he noticed the concerned look on Erlic's face after he described what he had heard. It then became obvious to him that the assassins had discovered Alakbar missing and were already hot on their trail!

After promising to let Erlic know if he heard the footsteps growing closer, Marz made his way back to Tristan. Jeremy stood nearby, looking quite happy with himself for collecting all the mant's swords. No doubt, the youth was expecting some praise from the ex-gang leader, but he simply started at the small mountain of weapons.

"There's no way in hell we can carry all these," Marz said, looking rather downcast. "These swords belong to us now, and I hate to leave them just lying around. Maybe we can return here in a couple of days with a wagon or something." The thought of retrieving the weapons at a later date seemed to brighten his mood. He moved closer to Tristan and nonchalantly tossed an arm across his shoulders, much to the chagrin of Jeremy. The otherworldly youth stomped off in the direction of Rowan, cursing the retched dragon under his breath. He truly believed that Tristan was the only thing that stood between him and his heart's desire at the moment!

Marz massaged his sore jaw with his free hand while Tristan related a conversation he had with Erlic. Since the dragon was the one that insisted he delve into the chakras in order to gain control of his Chi, Marz was surprised to hear that he now thought that working with the chakras was a bad idea.

"I'm not looking forward to messing with the damn things again either," Marz admitted. "But, Erlic assured me that everything would go smoothly as long as HE was present. Because I've come to trust his judgment, I'll give the chakra practice another try, with his guidance this time. If the ground sucks me in again, then rake any more charka lessons after that!"

Marz glanced to his left with he heard a ripple in the air, and found Barry flying toward them. He pulled his arm away from Tristan and fingered the hilt of his sword. If the skull decided to spew out more bugs, he would plunge his blade into one of Barry's humongous eyeballs! Luckily, the skull hurried off after inquiring how they intended to carry the swords that Jeremy had collected.

The ex-gang leader's dark eyes followed the floating skull to Isobel then to Corum. "I really need to have a talk with Corum about his choice of friends," he said, turning back to Tristan. "I've put up with Yorik for over a year, and even managed to warm up to the rodents and animals that yo-yo keeps picking up, but I don't think I'll get used to Barry. That raking bonehead annoys the shit outta me." Suddenly, a slow grin spread across Marz's battered face. "Hey, I wonder if I can pay Barry to become Justin's new best friend. It would be sweet, seeing the skull torment the crap out of that smelly, old bastard!"
