Author: Marz and Tia
Subject: Fun times around the campfire

Marz couldn't believe the nerve of Corum, swiping at his head with his crazy staff! Sure, he had been after a couple of tarantulas but sheesh, did he have to use Yorik to shoo the things away? "Moron," he whispered. "Next time a fly lands on your ugly face, I'll make sure I smash my fist into it!"

A slight smile crossed his lips when he saw Corum rush to sit down beside Tia because he was hoping they would get romantically involved. A scowl replaced the smile when the skull-staff wielder went off the talk to Barry a moment later, without saying anything to the pretty, blonde thief. Marz decided right then that he would have to have a long talk with Corum someday soon. If the idiot preferred the company of a bone brain instead of a beautiful woman, he definitely needed help!

When Marz met Tristan's eyes he gave him a wink. It was nice to see the dragon talking to Tia for a change. At least Tristan didn't look at her the way he had often looked at Eremis, so there was nothing to feel jealous about! If the dragon became close friends with Tia, maybe he'd be able to help him play matchmaker for her and Corum. As far as Marz was concerned they made a perfect couple, especially since Tia seemed to get along rather well with Yorik.

His attention was drawn to Valhorek, who appeared before him, asking to see the lute. Reluctantly, he handed the instrument to the healer and was pleasantly surprised to learn that he actually knew how to play it! Marz felt confused when Val told him that the gift of playing was associating happiness with sadness when it came to music. Only after closing his eyes and listening to the different melodies the healer played, did he begin to understand what he meant.

"What was the difference between the two?" Val asked.

Marz met the healer's eyes and grinned broadly. "That's easy! One song made me feel sad while the other one made me want to dance!" After a nod from Valhorek, Marz asked him to play the two songs again but slower this time. He kept his eyes trained on the healer's hands as he strummed the melodies. For some reason, he found it pretty damned easy to memorize the fingering for each chord that was played.

When Val finished the songs, Marz snatched the lute away from him. He took a deep breath then played each of the songs perfectly, from memory. Of course he didn't know the names of the chords he formed but that didn't matter to him at the moment. "Learning to play music is a piece of cake!" he chirped happily. When Laurel asked if he wanted her to teach him more songs, he nodded eagerly. "Damn straight I do, lady! I want to know how to play a ton of raking songs by the end of the night."

His eyes narrowed a bit when the druidess said that she could teach him how to read music with Val's help. "How the hell can you read music?" he asked. "Books are for reading and music is for listening to." Thinking that Laurel was only teasing him with the reading music shit, he eyed her suspiciously while waiting to hear what she had to say next.

Jeremy crept up behind Val, drawing the man's attention by tapping on his shoulder. "Can you teach Marz how to play this kick-ass AC/DC tune, dude?" Without waiting for a reply, he rattled off the chords to a song he called, Highway to Hell.

Tia was surprised to learn that dragons liked chocolate, but a moment later she shrugged. What wouldn't they like it? It was delicious and could be quite addicting. The old lady that rented the house next to hers ate a small box of the stuff nearly every day! Although the thief loved the taste she hoped she'd never start craving it that often.

She giggled when Marz appeared before them to play the new song he had been taught. It was tempting to get up and dance yet she wasn’t about to do it alone. A sigh escaped her when she saw Rowan sitting on the other side of the campfire staring at the ground. It would have been nice to share a dance with him but apparently he had other things on his mind right now. Maybe he's contemplating his next love and lust lesson with Jeremy, she thought with a smirk. The men in this group were certainly a bit strange; either they were too solemn like Erlic, preferred the company of skulls, or were drawn to other men instead of women!

Tia pulled her eyes away from Rowan and focused her attention on Tristan when he asked her about the earlier statement she had made. She blushed a little when he said that she was pretty even though she believed he only said that to make her feel better about herself. "I am plain when you compare me to other women," she said lowly. "I definitely don't have that hourglass figure most men adore. My shape is quite similar to Yorik's in fact."

She laughed then took another bite of the candy bar. "How can you say you're nothing special?" she asked, her violet eyes roaming along the dragon's face. "I think you are extremely handsome, and I bet a lot of other women think so too. You have a perfect face surrounded by a gorgeous head of hair that any woman would love running her fingers through. Now that I'm sitting so close to you, I can see how haunting beautiful your eyes are as well, and I've heard that the eyes are a reflection of the soul. Marz is one lucky guy, to be loved by someone like you."

She washed down another bite of candy with Pepsi then smiled when some of the children in the tribe began passing out jugs of what smelled like blackberry brandy. After taking a sip from the jug she was handed, her eyes seemed to sparkle with delight. "Their food might stink but at least they serve great tasting beverages!"

A frown came over her face when she spotted Corum swiping at Marz's head with his staff. A moment later, he rushed off to share a private conversation with Barry, leaving a cursing Marz glaring at them. "It seems that Marz is going to learn a lot of songs tonight," she said, when Valhorek began strumming on the lute.

Tia raised the small jug to her lips for another drink then turned to face Tristan. "I've noticed that Marz seems to have a nasty temperament, yet whenever he's with you he appears a lot calmer. It's hard to believe that you guys fight all the time. What in the world is there to constantly argue about anyway?"

The thief's eyes widened then she lowered her head, feeling a little ashamed of herself. "Oops, I didn't mean to pry, Tristan. You don't have to answer that last question if you don’t want to."
