Subject: Unsightly change of plans
In reply to: Jeremy, Ravin etc. 's message, "Discussing marching order and stuff" on 11:00:18 12/31/01 Mon

Rowan grimaced silently after Jeremy thanked him for his offer of help. True, he was very fond of the kid, but he really didn’t want to get between him and his pseudo-romantic problems—especially if they pertained to Marz and that dragon. Rowan wasn’t too keen on messing with the pair, particularly since they were all part of the same group. It was exactly this sort of inter-political goings on that he hated most when he was younger, mostly because he never knew which side to choose. Of course, he would always support Jeremy, but he still thought there was a strong chance the little fool might end up getting his ass kicked by Marz, Tristan, or both together!

But…he’d given his word. He shrugged. What chance did Jeremy have anyway? He’d continue to make puppy dog eyes at the handsome older boy, who’d no doubt continue to pet him incessantly, just for kicks—and to what end? Nothing, obviously. Rowan figured Marz was definitely the type to be easily tempted (he did catch him even eyeing Laurel up once or twice, the little bastard), but he’d be willing to bet his entire inheritance that Jeremy would be the last person to cause him to stray from his present relationship.

Then again, Rowan didn’t understand relationships. He’d never had one. Didn’t want one, either, which he was always quick to point out. It was just unfortunate he’d made a promise to Jeremy, since it seemed more than likely that the kid would get nothing out of the deal save two mortal enemies and a broken nose, if he were lucky.

He turned and stared at Barry and Tia, waiting impatiently for the skull to grow bored and simply fly off. But Tia was showering him with the same attention she seemed to show anyone, though Rowan liked to think she did treat him somewhat specially. He sighed and took to poking at the dirt with a stick again, glancing up at the soft sound of movement beside him.

It was Ravin, crouched down beside him. Rowan gave the good-looking thief a friendly smile, though the expression faded slowly from his face as he listened to what the man was saying.

Let someone else watch over Tia? He frowned briefly and gave Ravin a slightly pained look, though it vanished from his features just as quickly as it appeared. Well yeah, made sense for someone else to do it. Although he wanted to be the one to protect her, most importantly he wanted her to know he was the one protecting her—he didn’t particularly want to have to actually protect her from anything. Not that he was a coward or anything, but nobody in their right mind wanted to be attacked, not even to look good in front of a beautiful girl.

Well…given the right circumstances….

“Yeah, you’re right,” he said, the funny thought disappearing from his head in one quick *poof!* “I mean, no reason why I should be the one to watch over her, huh?” He forced a little laugh. “Although I think someone responsible like Laurel or Isobel should watch her,” he added hastily. “Not Corum. Definitely not him!”

Definitely not Corum, especially since he and Tia seemed to be getting along so swimmingly lately.

Woah, did he just have a jealous thought? Perish the thought, he thought grimly.
