When Marz saw Urchin peeking out from the pouch at his side, he snatched the ferret up then set him in his lap. "I keep forgetting about you because you're always so quiet," he told that animal while stroking its fur. Urchin came and went as he pleased; yet somehow he always managed to end up in the special pouch Marz bought for him. The ex-gang leader didn't mind at all because he loved the ferret. He and Corum had even taught the little critter how to swipe things from people when they weren't looking. Keys were one of Urchin's favorite things to steal. Marz now had a nice collection of them, often wondering whom they belonged to and what they might open.

He grinned at the ferret when he took off to hunt for food then turned his attention back to Tristan, who looked as moody as ever. Most of the time, he reminded Marz of a grumpy, old man, yet once in a rare while he showed a childlike innocence. He hated the grumpy, constantly depressed part of Tristan's personality. Like a fool, he had thought that the dragon would be a lot happier now that they were a couple, but he was wrong. Since professing their love for one another, Tristan seemed moodier than ever! He was forever angry or upset about something, hardly smiling at all nowadays. Maybe he'd be more content with that teacher, Odarin that he was in love with once.

As he listened to Tristan speak, he could tell he was trying to sound lighthearted, but he wasn't doing a very good job of it. Sarcasm tinged his words and nearly every attempt at a smile turned into something resembling a scowl. Trying to make the dragon happy was becoming quite a tiring task for Marz. For the past week, he had been watching his every word and action in an effort not to piss off his lover by doing or saying something wrong, and that was nerve racking. More and more he found himself desiring to break away from Tristan for a time to go off to do something stupid without having to worry about the consequences!

He glanced at their companions when Tristan mentioned that they must be keeping their distance because one of them stunk. Marz returned the smile that finally came to the dragon's face then frowned a moment later when he realized something. I'm becoming an island like him! Tristan was the one that refused to mingle with the rest of the group for more than a few minutes at a time. He was quite anti-social, preferring to go off by himself to brood. The only one he ever really talked to for any real length of time was Marz. Now we go off together to brood, completely ignoring the others! Maybe they would be a lot happier if they didn't spend nearly every single minute of the each day together.

Marz loved being with a crowd, especially if he was the center of attention. Lately, he was often cloistered away with the dragon and that seemed to be doing more harm than good to their relationship. Thinking it a great idea to stop focusing on themselves so much for a while, he got to his feet then pulled Tristan up beside him. It was only after the dragon winced that he remembered the wound in his side. "Sorry," he muttered. "Let's go join the others. We'll walk slowly sos not to aggravated your injury or my sprained ankle."

The small group of vultures in the distance that continued to feed on the dead carcasses of their fellow birds drew his attention momentarily. Since the ugly things had enough food to last them for days they should have no more interest in feeling off the undead Rocs or trying to kill humans for a meal. He looked forward to chopping them into little pieces, should they decide to stupidly attack again.

When they neared the campfire Erlic had started, Marz saw Tia sitting with Barry cradled in her lap. The silly girl was patting the skullhead, and her eyes appeared to be filled with concern. "Do you believe this raking shit?" he whispered to Tristan. "We're slowly losing each of our companions to boneheads!" Corum's attachment to Yorik was bad enough, now Tia was getting too close to this other block of bone! At least the damn skull was quiet for the moment!

After plopping on the ground next to Corum, Marz pulled Tristan down beside him. Jeremy gave the ex-gang leader a smile then handed him a mug of freshly brewed java. Obviously the kid still had the hots for him! "How about you fill a cup up for Tristan too, turdface." Marz said, staring at the freaky looking youth.

"Oh yeah, sorry. I didn't notice him there," Jeremy blurted out. A moment later he passed a mug of java to the dragon then turned his eyes back to Marz and resumed his erotic daydream.

"She's one hell of a good looker, ain't she?"

Marz turned at the sound of the Justin's voice then followed his eyes to Isobel. The woman stood a short distance away, displaying a sword to Erlic. He laughed when the smelly merc boasted that Isobel couldn't keep her eyes off him and that he'd have her in his bed by the end of the week. "I'll bet you ten gold that you can't get so much as a kiss from her," Marz chirped.

Justin snorted. "You ain't seen me in action yet, kid. I'll take that bet so you better be ready to lose your money!"

Tia rolled her eyes. The conversation at hand disgusted her mainly because no one ever bet over her before! Not that she would want someone like Justin trying to entice her into his bed! But, the rest of the men in the group were very appealing and she wouldn't mind having a couple of them fighting over her. She glanced at Isobel and sighed. The woman certainly didn't need any help from nymphish magic to make men drool over her!

Once he finished laughing over Justin's believe that he would actually win the bet, Marz waved at Erlic and Isobel, beckoning them to join the group at the campfire. "I hope Issy knocks out a few teeth when she punches Justin in his big mouth," he whispered to Tristan before taking a sip of java.
