Chapter 3
The soft beeping of the medical equipment lulled Liz to sleep as she sat vigil by Lucky's bedside. She held his hand gently, her head resting on the bed next to his. If the situation wasn't so dire it would almost be a wonderfully peaceful afternoon. Occasionally Liz would fall asleep lightly, her mind drifting to a dream state.
<<<The warm sun beat down upon them, blessing them with the comfort of its heat. Liz's head rested on Lucky's lap as she laid back on the soft grass. He was propped up on his elbows, his head arched back towards the sun.
"This is nice," she sighed, looking up at his face. She squinted her eyes, trying to focus on Lucky's face, but the haze of the sun shadowed his face.
"What's wrong?" he whispered, as if his voice was from far off.
"Nothing you just seem so . . .so . . .so far away," she explained, sitting up and turning to face him.
"I'm right here Elizabeth, right in front of you," he whispered as they both stood up. "All you have to do is look."
"I am Lucky, but I can't see you . . .the light is so bright, it's so bright . . ." her voice cried as she reached out for him. He felt so far away, and she was beginning to panic.
"Just open your heart and admit what you know is true. Just say what you believe," he whispered, the light around him growing stronger.
"Lucky don't leave me, I need you . . .don't leave me!" her voice broke as she reached forward into the light. "Don't leave me ... I love you!" >>>
"Elizabeth," a raspy voice called out, waking her from the dream.
She peeled her eyes open to find Lucky propped up, a warm yet weak smile spread across his face. Her heart fluttered, he was awake, he had come back to her.
"You're awake!" she exclaimed, jumping to her feet excitedly. "I was so scared, we were all so scared."
"Can't kill a Spencer that easily . . .but what exactly happened? I mean, how did I get here . . .I was alone when Stefan attacked me," he explained hoarsely.
"I found you and . . ." Liz paused, trying to remember what exactly happened, it seemed like a lifetime ago. "Angel, he stopped by and helped get you here. God Lucky, I was so scared."
Lucky's jaw tightened at the mention of Angel, he couldn't help but feel jealous. "Well, tell him I said thanks."
"Are you jealous?" she asked, sensing his tension. "You know, there is no reason to feel jealous, I don't love Angel."
"I'm not jealous," he lied, forcing a smile.
"Lucky, I know you, you're jealous," she accused with a soft laugh. She gently took his hand in hers, kissing it softly.
The simple act threw him off a bit, Liz didn't seem to be holding back. Not that he was about to complain, it just made him wonder. Lucky always heard about near death experiences causing people to have changes in attitude, but he figured it usually meant the person who almost died.
"Elizabeth, are you alright?" his voice was soft and sincere.
"I'm fine, better than fine in fact. Lucky I love you," she declared.
"What?" he gasped, but before she could explain or elaborate the door to the room flew open and Laura rushed in. He took one last look at Liz who seemed to be completely unaffected by her declaration, or at least she didn't seem to be nervous like he had expected.
Something weird was going on. Something really weird!

Giles strode into the dining room of the Port Charles Grille, his eyes scanning the room for Alexis. She had called him, asking him to meet her at the restaurant for breakfast. He figured she had come across some information about the Gem of Power, something he had not come close to uncovering.
Finally spotting them he waved and moved to the table, "Good morning."
"Oh, why is the English dude here? He bores me," Jax groaned as he leaned back against his chair.
Giles flinched, but shook it off. He really didn't think much of Jax, so his ill feelings toward him didn't bother Giles. It was odd, but he was slowly learning that Port Charles was odd...long before the Hellmouth ever relocated.
"So . . .have you figured anything else out about the Gem? My research turned up nothing," Giles noted as he sat down across from Alexis. The waitress came by and poured him a cup of coffee. As he sipped it Alexis began to giggle. "Are you alright?"
"Hmm? I'm fine . . .the research, no, we didn't find anything. But then again, it's hard to get any work done with Jax around. All it is, is sex, sex, sex with him . . .that's what I get for marrying a younger man with a powerful libido," she explained nonchalantly, taking a forkful of her eggs and grinning at Giles.
"Honey, please," Jax began to protest. "You know you want it as much as I do."
Giles paled, totally caught off guard by the openness of the couple's relationship. "Um, can we . . .let's get back to the subject at hand."
"Oh gosh, why do we even try? This is boring honey, I'm going to go do some work . . .though really, I don't do much work, I just talk on the phone and pretend to do work, oh well," Jax grumbled, leaning down to kiss his wife. "Later Giles, bye honey."
"Wait!" Alexis called out, reaching for Jax's arm. "Look at him . . ." she pointed at Giles who had the coffee cup up by his mouth, "Who does he remind you of?"
"Bean?"
"No . . .remember those old coffee commercials, the 'soap opera-ish' type commercials . . .doesn't he look like . . ."
"The Taster's Choice guy! Damnit, you're right," Jax chuckled. "I've got to be going now, thanks for the laugh Giles."
"I'm glad I can be amusing," he grimaced. Once Jax was gone, Giles looked to Alexis questioningly. "Is everything alright? You seem different this morning?"
"We had a long night with all the . . ."
Giles threw up his hands in defeat, "I know, I know, you don't have to repeat it."
"Fine, so sue me for being honest ... then again, since I'm a lawyer it would make more sense for me to be doing the suing. I couldn't very well sue myself though, could I? You know, forget I said anything," she sighed, sipping her orange juice tiredly. "Anyway, I was wondering if you have heard about Lucky? How is he doing?"
"So far no word, though I'm sure once he wakes up one of our two charges will inform us," Giles chuckled. "I'm rather amazed at how quickly they bonded though. After what happened with Faith, I was certain that Buffy would be quite guarded against getting close to another slayer again. I'm pleased though."
Alexis shrugged her shoulders, "I guess so . . .I am still getting to know Liz myself though, so it's hard to say. But to be perfectly honest with you, I'm having a blast being the watcher. Liz is like the daughter I never had . . .and you know, they tell you not to become emotionally attached to the slayers, but how are we not to? Don't you agree? I mean, you must view Buffy as a daughter."
"Well, I, um, you . . ." Giles stammered, completely uncomfortable discussing this. It was true, he did think of Buffy as his daughter. He loved her like she was his own, if something ever happened to the young woman he'd be devastated. But he couldn't talk about it, or verbalize it. That was just the way he was raised, to not allow his feelings be known. "I do care for Buffy."
Alexis nodded her head, her inhibitions seemingly nonexistent. Not that she would have noticed, it all felt completely normal, as if she had to say exactly what she felt, telling the tiniest of fibs wasn't even registering to her. "I see, you are afraid of how you feel. I understand, men are like that . . . I know for one that it took Jax a while to realize he loved me and not the incredibly irksome Chloe. So I can see how it would be difficult to admit that you feel for Buffy like a father would for his daughter, especially when she's constantly putting her life on the line and all you can do is sit back and watch."
"Let's change the subject, shall we?" Giles requested, smiling nervously at Alexis's odd behavior. He chalked it up to the stress of being a new watcher thrown into the middle of what could be a major catastrophe.
"Counselor!"
"Oh no," Alexis groaned, smiling up at Sonny who was walking across the room towards her. "Good morning Sonny."
"I haven't seen you around lately, I guess the hopes of you leaving Candy Boy for me are out of the question, huh?" Sonny joked, winking at Alexis.
"Sorry Sonny, the . . ."
"The sex is too good, she'd never shuck that in a million years," Giles explained effortlessly, rolling his eyes at Sonny.
"Well, a little too much info for me . . .wait a second, how did, why . . .forget I asked," Sonny hesitated, looking from Alexis to Giles. "I don't believe we've met, I'm Sonny Corinthos."
"That's nice," Giles shrugged.
"You're supposed to shudder in fear and bow to him in awe, he's sort of our friendly neighborhood mobster," Alexis noted, flashing a grin at Sonny.
He looked at her in shock before turning his attention back to Giles, "Yeah, but she's my mouthpiece so it all evens out."
"I don't know how I got roped into being your lawyer anyway . . . I think its your dimples and Jason's blue jeans, that's probably it," she sighed.
"Anyway, I didn't quite get your name," Sonny continued, extending his hand to Giles.
"Rupert Giles, but everyone calls me Giles."
"Nice to meet you . . .so, you a lawyer like Alexis?"
"No, I'm a . . . an old friend, I'm visiting for a little bit, I've got business to take care of in town," Giles explained cryptically.
"Business, what sort of business?" Sonny asked questioningly, temporarily forgetting Alexis's odd behavior.
"Now Mr. Corinthos, I don't think you'd be willing to discuss your business with me, so why should I discuss mine with you?"
Sonny smiled bright, his dimples showing through. "What, the coffee business?"
"I didn't know coffee merchants kept lawyers like Alexis on a retainer," Giles retorted with a grin.
"Touché," Sonny laughed, glancing down at Alexis, "I like your friend, he's pretty cool."
"Really? Jax thinks he's boring," she noted, eyeing Giles curiously.
"Are you . . .forget it," Sonny sighed. "Well, I have to meet a man about coffee, so I'll see you all later."
"Interesting fellow," Giles noted.
"Yeah, I bet he doesn't know that his girlfriend is a vampire either," Alexis said with a laugh, watching Sonny walk away.

Xander poked his head out the room, looking up and down the hall for a few minutes. "Cordelia!" he hollered.
A moment later she threw her door open, an angry glare on her face as she marched across the hall to Xander's room. "I must be hearing things, because you did not just bellow my name."
"I did, and I did it for a reason," he stated proudly. "We need to talk."
Cordelia laughed as she turned to walk away, her movement hindered when Xander reached out and grabbed her arm. "Who the hell do you think you are?"
"I just want to talk to you Cordy, you know t a l k," he said exaggeratedly.
"Us? Talk? Right Xander, like that ever happens. Fine, let's talk," she grumbled, figuring it would be more prudent to humor him, that way she'd be able to get back to what she was doing . . .figuring out a way to forget about Xander.
Once they were inside Xander closed the door nervously, unable to take his eyes off of her. Man, she still could get him going. He couldn't quite figure out what it was about Cordelia, maybe the way she would glare at him with those big brown eyes, or the way she'd saunter across the room swaying her hips oh so suggestively, or maybe it was because she was just so wrong for him. Any way he thought about it, one thing was certain, Xander was inextricably drawn to Cordelia.
"I still like you," he blurted out quickly, almost too quickly to be audible. But she heard, she had a way of always hearing Xander's imperceptible commentary.
"Yeah, so what? I like you too, in a twisted you make me want to slam my head against cold hard cement kind of way, but I like you. What of it Xander?" Cordelia asked, her admission, even in it's slightly altered way, shocking herself.
"Don't you think we should do something about it? I hear pent up sexual frustration isn't good for one's health."
Cordelia sighed as she backed towards the door, turning the lock stealthily. "Well Xander, I'm not really sexually frustrated, that seems to be your problem."
Xander groaned, running his hands through his hair angrily, "Why do you do this to me, huh?" he asked as she inched closer to him. "You get me all worked up and then you slam me down. Really Cordy, if you like me, good, if you don't, oh well. But face it, we are attracted to each other. There really is nothing more to . . ."
Before he could finish his sentence Cordelia attacked him with a fierce kiss that nearly knocked him backward onto the bed he was standing in front of. Quickly Xander regained his barring, returning her impassioned kisses. His fingers were buried in her hair, his tongue smoothly exploring her waiting mouth. Yes, this was something he had been waiting for a long time. He was going to show Cordelia exactly what kind of man he was. If not, he'd be terribly humiliated.
"I'm going to take your shirt off now, ok?" she asked, though it was more of a statement than a question. Xander backed up a step hesitantly as Cordelia ran her fingers up his chest, up to the collar of his blue button down. In a swift movement she ripped the shirt open, popping nearly all of the buttons in the process.
With his chest now bare and revealed, Xander moved closer to Cordelia and tugged at the bottom of her sweater before pulling it up over head and tossing it behind him, the sweater landing curiously on top of the lap in the corner.
"I didn't know you were so . . .so . . . forward," she purred into his ear as he pushed her towards the door. In a furious and harried attempt, they both shed the rest of their clothes, leaving a trail across the room.
Unable to control himself, Xander threw all the scatter off of the table before leading Cordelia onto the surface. "Table sex ..." she whispered with a laugh.
"Fun, huh?" he said slightly shocked he was actually doing this.
Feeling a bit frisky herself, Cordelia slid out from under Xander, forcing him on his back. "My turn," she declared as she straddled his prone body, a devious grin on her face.
"Who am I to argue?" he asked while he leaned up to kiss her again, his hand roaming over the fabric of her bra, the only piece of clothing she was still wearing. He let out a loud groan of pleasure before looking up at her questioningly, "Does this seem weird to you?"
"I haven't done this a lot Xander, but I am fairly certain we are doing it right," she said breathlessly.
"I just mean . . .ohhh . . .I just mean, the fact that we, me and you . . . oh hell, forget about it," he moaned as they rolled off of the table onto the floor.

Luke strode into his diner, looking around for someone to talk to, bored silly. He had been thrown out of Lucky's hospital room for cracking annoying vampire jokes for about twenty minutes straight, that and Lucky needed to sleep and Liz had claimed the job of official sleeping Lucky watcher.
He slipped behind the counter and began to poor himself a cup of coffee when he heard a loud crash coming from one of the rooms upstairs. He stopped, stepping closer to the stairwell, and listened for a few moments. A sly grin spread across his face when he figured out what was going.
"Holy sh*t," he chuckled, "Hope Barbara doesn't find out, those kids will be in such trouble."
"Hey Luke, what's up?" Tammy asked as she returned from out back where she had taken the trash.
"Ask Xander," Luke declared with a laugh.
~*~
Xander walked into Luke's and looked around, quickly spotting his friends. He bounced over to them and fell into one of the empty chairs there with a sigh, grinning widely. "Heidi-ho, neighbors. What's shakin?"
"Heidi-ho?" Willow asked with a soft laugh.
"What's shaking?" Buffy added, smirking at him. "What's the big, Xand? You're acting all..." She stopped, her mouth dropping open, and pointed at him excitedly. "Wait a minute, I know that look, I've had that look."
"What look?" he asked, frowning for a second before his face returned to his previous goofy grin. She pointed at him in mock-seriousness. "You have afterglow face. You got some, didn't you?"
"Some what?" Willow asked, her brow wrinkled in confusion. "Smoochies?"
"Oh, Will, you're so naive sometimes," Buffy sighed, shaking her head. "Xander did the horizontal mambo with someone." She turned back to him and leaned forward eagerly. "Who was it?"
"Cordelia," he answered proudly, leaning back in his chair with his hands clasped behind his head. He almost leaned too far, and for a moment the chair wobbled like it would topple over, but he managed to right himself after a bit of uncool fumbling. He chuckled softly, then cleared his throat. "Um, I think the legs on this thing are uneven."
"Nah, you're just a klutz," Willow offered. "So, Cordy, huh? Whoda thunk it?"
"Well, me for one," he responded. "I thunk it, well, all the time, really."
Buffy laughed, then reached for her drink. "Yeah, we know. You're big hormone guy. Not too subtle."
He pouted for a moment and was about to shoot back some witty comeback, but before he could think of one, Angel walked into the club and made his way over to them, his black duster flapping dramatically behind him. "Okay, who invited the Caped Crusader?"
"The who?" Angel asked, slipping effortlessly into the chair next to Buffy. She smiled and looked over at him lovingly.
"It's a Batman reference. You know, cause of your cape-like jacket, and the whole vampire thing. Bats, vampires, that whole superstition."
Angel just sort of grunted, glancing at Xander as he did so, clearly not amused. "Well, it loses most of the humor when you dissect it like that," he huffed.
"Not really. It just wasn't that funny," Buffy sighed, turning her attention back to Angel. "So, what are you doing here?"
"Looking for you. Why aren't you patrolling?"
"I will, a little later. It's still kind of early. Most of the big nasties don't come out until after midnight, anyway." She sighed and sat back, glancing around the table. "I thought I'd just hang out with the gang until then. Slay break of sorts."
"Oh, okay. Um, where's Cordelia?"
"Probably still recuperating," Xander answered with a smug grin. Angel frowned, turning to Buffy for an interpretation, something he found himself doing whenever Xander spoke.
"He and Cordy did the wild thing today."
Luke walked over to them with a tray of fresh drinks just then and laughed. "So, that's what I heard? It sounded like a wrecking ball went through the second floor of Kelly's."
Xander laughed. "That must have been from all the stuff being thrown off of the table."
"Oooh, table sex," Willow said enthusiastically. "Oz and I have done that."
Luke frowned, surprised to hear something like that from her. Willow had always seemed so timid, so reserved. Was she drunk or something?
"Actually, by the time the sex was being had, we were on the floor," Xander explained casually.
"Understandable. Floor sex sounds much more comfortable," Buffy noted. "But, I wouldn't know. Angel and I were in his bed."
They smiled at one another nostalgically, causing Luke to shake his head. "You sure are an open bunch."
"So, how's Lucky?" Willow asked, changing the subject. Luke smiled and sat down at the table, figuring the bartender could take care of things for a bit.
"He's better. I think Liz has taken up a permanent vigil, though. She hadn't left his side since it happened."
"I know, I told her I'd cover patrol tonight," Buffy added. "I'm just not in the mood now. I want to do fun things, like hang out with my buds here. Cemeteries don't exactly hold much entertainment value."
"Oh, I don't know. I can think of some fun things to do there," Angel said, looking at her meaningfully. She blushed, then giggled.
"No fair, we can't do any of that, not unless we want Angelus back. No offense, but I didn't like him. He tried to kill me... numerous times."
"Yeah, sorry about that. Still, there are times where I wonder if having a soul is overrated."
"I miss Oz," Willow sighed, idly twirling her glass on the table.
"Where is he?" Luke asked, just noticing himself that he wasn't there.
"In his cage. He's wolfy tonight. Kind of the drawback to dating him, but hey, no one's perfect, right?"
"I don't get what you see in him, Will," Xander pointed out, crossing his arms in front of him. "He's so... monosyllabic."
"But that's part of his charm. It adds to the mystery. And he's really good in bed." She grinned proudly, convinced she had made her point. "Besides, he's tons better than Cordelia. I swear, she's the biggest flake I've ever met. I mean, sure, she comes through for us sometimes, but most of the time... just a big, trendy flake."
"Hey, she came all the way across the country with us to help, didn't she? No one made her go!"
"She only came because she's still hot for you, Xander," Buffy pointed out, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Didn't your little afternoon delight prove that to you?"
"But that's not why she's here. You guys don't know her like I do. She cares, really. It's just hidden under the surface, that's all."
"Waaaay under the surface," Willow added cattily. "Then again, that would imply her having depth, so maybe not...."
"Okay, so she's not deep, so what? She's... um, she's..."
Buffy laughed at his speechlessness. "So you don't know, either?"
He frowned stubbornly at her, then at Willow. "Shut up. Fine, I'll just use your excuse. She's good in bed... or floor... whatever. Must less scary then Faith." He shuddered, then looked up at Buffy and Angel. "I wonder if that was a Slayer thing, or if Faith is just that freaky. I think I had bruises for a week!"
Angel shrugged. "Now that you mention it, Faith was kind of wild. Of course, I never actually had sex with her, but still... it was enough to know she's pretty much insane. I'm stronger than a human, though, so I'm not sure about the Slayer part Buffy and I are kind of equal strength, or at least, close to it."
"Really?" Willow asked interestedly. "I always wondered about that. I mean, I know vampires have superhuman strength, and so do Slayers... that's kind of cool... and tragic, I guess, since you can't ever... again." She sighed, ending her rambling. "Stupid curse."
"Yeah," Buffy sighed, looking over at Angel longingly. "That's pretty much my mantra."
"Not me. My mantra is... you know, I don't think I have one. If I did, it would probably be about sex, though. Me being hormone guy and all. In fact, all this talk about having sex with Buffy is just not helping matters."
Luke watched the exchange in a stunned silence. Were these really the same kids that he'd known for the past few weeks? It was like some weird kind of body-snatching or something. Either that or they were just all really drunk
