Liz was sitting next to Lucky's hospital bed, hunched over with her head resting on her folded arms alongside him. The only sounds in the room were the soft beeping of his heart monitor and an occasional murmur from her as she dreamed.

<<<Liz was in a graveyard. It wasn't any specific graveyard, at least, none that she recognized. It was similar to the one in Port Charles, yet different as well. She was patrolling, like any other night, but so far there wasn't much activity, and she was bored. Stake in hand, she roamed the grounds quietly, occasionally stopping to read a headstone here or there. As she rounded a corner, there was a loud crack behind her, the unmistakable sound of a twig breaking under someone's foot. She tensed up and whirled around, prepared to strike, but relaxed when she saw who the intruder was.

"Lucky, why are you following me again?"

He stepped out of the shadows and smiled at her, melting away her anger within seconds. She had warned him so many times not to follow her, that it was dangerous and distracting, but he didn't seem to want to listen. Since patrol was slow that night, she decided to forgo her usual chastisements this time.

"I'm sorry, but I had to see you. I missed you," he said sincerely, walking towards her and enveloping her in a warm hug. She sighed and returned the embrace, then pulled back to look at him.

"You shouldn't be here," she said weakly, her arms still looped around his neck, the stake dangling loosely from one hand. "It's dangerous."

"I know, but I'm a Spencer... I live for danger," he replied softly, letting out a quick laugh before surprising her with a heated kiss. She felt herself melting into his arms, as the rest of the world fell away. The kiss seemed to go on forever, until the silence around them was broken by a soft rustling of leaves behind her.
She reluctantly broke the kiss and turned to find a vampire staggering towards them.

"Damn it, they really do have the worst timing," she mumbled, rushing towards it and thrusting the stake through its heart. As the dust settled, she turned back to Lucky and smiled. "Now, where were we?"

He quickly gathered her in his arms again. "I love watching you do that."

"And I love you," she mumbled, reaching for his lips again. Seconds later, they were lost in another passionate kiss. Lucky scooped her off of the ground and started carrying her across the grass. She pulled away to look at him, smiling.

"What are you doing?"

"Well, we're out in the open, someone might walk by. I'm just looking for somewhere more private." He kissed her again before she could protest, his tongue probing the warm recesses of her mouth. She moaned softly, loving the way he was kissing her, loving everything about him. She felt him stop walking and turned to see where they were, laughing when she saw the large structure behind her.

"A crypt? You brought me to a crypt?"

"It's private," he whispered, pushing the heavy door open with his shoulder, then carrying her inside. As the door shut behind them, she looked around, startled at first when she realized they were suddenly in his dorm room. The shock wore off quickly, as if it were perfectly normal for him to get to his room through a crypt.

"See? Privacy," he said proudly, walking further into the room. As he moved towards his bed, he brought his head down towards her neck, moving his lips slowly along her skin.
"What about Oz?" she muttered, not really caring what the answer would be. The more he sucked at her neck, the less she cared about anything.

"Full moon," he murmured between kisses, lowering her onto the mattress. She started to loosen her grip from his neck, then realized she was still clutching her stake. Frowning, she tossed it away. It clattered onto the floor in the corner, and Lucky climbed onto the bed next to her, lavishing her with more kisses.

The next thing Liz knew, they were both undressed and under his blankets, their hands roaming each other's bodies as they made love. His face was buried in the crook of her neck, and he was breathlessly whispering her name, over and over again. She clutched at him tightly, closing her eyes. His hand moved up to her hair, smoothing it away from her face as he continued to call out her name. She was too lost in him to answer, and was only able to whimper a response.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her neck. Her eyes flew open, and she let out a loud gasp when she saw Lucky raise his head to look down at her. His forehead was ridged, his eyes had a yellow sheen to them, and he was sneering at her, blood dripping from his fangs.>>>

Liz's head shot up from the bed, her hand reaching for her neck as another pain shot through it. As soon as she saw Lucky looking back at her, she let out a short scream and jumped out of her chair, simultaneously pulling a stake from her back pocket.

"Whoa, Elizabeth, it's just me!" he shouted, holding up his hands in defense. "It was just a dream, calm down."

She blinked rapidly at him, then slowly lowered the stake. "A dream?"

"Yeah," he sighed, seeing the recognition in her eyes. "That's all. I was trying to wake you up, but you must have been out cold. I must have called your name at least a dozen times."

She sat down in the chair with a heavy groan, leaving the stake in her lap so she could rub her neck. She had been sleeping with her head at a funny angle, and now had a monster crick in it.

"What was it about?" he asked softly, his voice full of concern. She looked up at him and frowned.

"What?"

"The dream, do you remember it? It seemed pretty intense."

"Oh, that. Um, you were a vampire. At least, at the end you were. I shouldn't have thrown my stake away..."

"A vampire, huh?" he asked, smirking a little. "Well, I don't think that's going to happen. Just because I got bit doesn't mean I'm one now, does it?"

"Not unless you drank his blood, or you died. Giles is sure you're going to be fine."

"I know, Bobbie came in while you were sleeping and told me they're letting me out first thing in the morning."

Liz grinned and reached out to hug him happily. "That's so great! I'm so tired of sitting in this room."

Lucky was thrown a little by that, but shook it off, figuring she was just joking. "Um, so did I bite you or something in this dream? You kind of grabbed your neck when you woke up."

She nodded, pulling back from him. "Yeah, we were having sex and then you bit me. It was kind of rude, now that I think about it. Then again, when Angel and Buffy did it, he went evil on her, so maybe that's normal...."

"Wait, back up," he said suddenly, sitting forward. "We were *what*?"

"Having sex," she said simply, a small smile playing on her lips. "In your room. Not this room, your dorm room, although we got there through a crypt, which now that I think about it was kind of weird. I guess at the time I didn't really care how we got there. You didn't really give me much of a choice, since you were carrying me..."

Lucky stared at her as she rambled on about the dream, wondering if she had gone insane. "You
dreamt that we... um, that we made love? And you don't even feel a little bit weird telling me about it?"

She shrugged, twirling the stake a little between her fingers. "You asked what it was about. Doesn't everyone have dreams like that?"

He blushed at the question, then cleared his throat nervously. "Um, I guess so. Uh, what time is it?" Changing the subject seemed like the best way out. Liz glanced at her watch. "A little after ten."

"Shouldn't you be patrolling?"

"Nope, Buffy offered to cover for me tonight so I could stay with you."

Touched by her devotion, he smiled and reached for her hand, momentarily forgetting his earlier discomfort at her frank discussion of her dream. "Thank you for staying, it means a lot to me. I'll have to thank Buffy later for doing that for you."

Liz smiled back at him and gently squeezed his hand. "It's no big deal. I'd do it for her if it was Angel... although, he wouldn't be in the hospital from a vampire bite, but you know what I mean."

Once again, he was surprised at her bluntness, comparing them to Buffy and Angel that way. "Right, of course you would. If he was hurt, Buffy would want to be with him."

"I know they may seem kind of estranged, but they're still so in love," she sighed, gazing around the room. "I feel bad for her sometimes, because they can't be together. She must have amazing self-control, though, to keep resisting him like she does. I don't know if I could do it."

"You couldn't resist Angel?" he asked, feeling a sliver of dread go through his chest. Liz laughed and shook her head.

"Not Angel, you, silly. If you were a vampire, and I couldn't be with you, I'd probably go crazy." She sighed and stood up suddenly. "I better go call Luke. I told him I'd let him know when you woke up again."

She was almost to the door when Lucky managed to regain his senses enough to speak. "Wait, Elizabeth?"

She paused in the doorway and turned to smile at him "Yeah?"

"Are you sure you're all right?"

"My neck's a little sore, and my ass is killing me, but otherwise, I'm okay. Those chairs are really not comfortable at all. I'd write a nasty letter to the hospital to get better ones, but their CEO is too busy these days trying to kill the people I love." She walked over to him again, leaned over, placed a quick but firm kiss on his lips, then rushed out of the room. Lucky just sat there, staring at the door in complete shock. For the second time that day, she told him she loved him, and was acting so strangely, so uninhibited. What the hell was going on?

~*~

Luke had gone back to the bar, and everyone at the table was chatting casually about a new movie they wanted to see, when Nikolas and Emily came into the club and hurried over to them.

"Hey, guys, sorry we're late," Emily said breathlessly, taking the empty seat next to Xander. Nikolas sat on her other side with a sigh.

"What took ya?" Xander asked, munching on a cheese fry. He looked from Emily to Nikolas, then back to Emily, a sly grin on his face.

"What's that look for?" she asked, frowning.

"Oh, he's probably just assuming you two were having sex," Willow explained off-handedly. "Those cheese fries look good, I think I'll go get some."

"Sex?" Nikolas asked, blushing a little. "Why would you assume that? We were late because I didn't want to come here, so Emily had to talk me into it."

"Gee, thanks," Buffy snorted. "Nice to know we're so repulsive."

"It's not that, he just hates Luke, and vice versa I don't think he likes Xander much, either." She paused and looked over at him, still dwelling on his earlier comment. "Why did you think we were having sex?"

"Because that's what he did today, so he's assuming everyone else did, too," Buffy cut in, answering for him.

"With who, Cordelia?" Nikolas asked, looking around for a waiter.

Xander's eyes widened in surprise. "How'd you know that?"

He shrugged. "It seemed like the obvious choice, although I don't understand why that would mean Emily and I slept together tonight as well. We haven't gotten that far yet."

"Don't mind him," Buffy chuckled. "He just has sex on the brain tonight.... then again, I can't think of a time when he isn't thinking about sex..."

"Hey, I don't always think about it!" he interrupted defensively. "Remember right before we left Sunnydale, when that vampire threw me against a wall? There was about ten seconds or so then where I was actually thinking about something else."

"I hear near-death experiences will do that" Emily joked.

"Actually, I was just mad because it tore my new shirt. I really liked that shirt."

"Oh, don't even start me on ruined clothes," Buffy snorted, pointing one of Willow's newly acquired cheese fries at him as she spoke. "I must lose at least one good outfit a week to slay-related damage. Vampire dust is harder to wash out than you'd think, and most demons tend to explode when you kill them. Tres messy."

"Well, on that note, everyone dig in," Xander joked, reaching for another fry. For the next few minutes, they ate quietly, except for Angel, who was just watching Buffy. Finally, Nikolas cleared his throat to speak, breaking the silence.
"I called the hospital before we left tonight. They're releasing Lucky in the morning."

"Really?" Buffy asked, grinning. "That's so great! Liz must be thrilled. I've never seen her so worried before. Granted, I've only known her for a few weeks, but in that time, this is pretty much tops on the worry scale."

"Yeah, she was pretty freaked," Emily agreed. "We all were. I swear, I wish I could just kill Stefan for that. Lucky's my best friend, and he almost died because of him! I hope you or Liz find him soon and make him pay."

"Hey, that's my father, remember?" Nikolas argued, still torn over how to feel about the man now that he knew the truth.

"Nikolas, he's a blood-sucking monster now, he's not the same man anymore... well, actually, maybe he's not all that different..."

"Excuse me?" he asked, sounding offended. Emily shrugged and started to answer, but there was a slight commotion by the door that took their attention away from the discussion. Spike and Carly had come into the club, grabbing everyone's attention as they made their way inside. Luke groaned and rolled his eyes from his station behind the bar, watching them saunter over to the Scooby Gang's table.

"Well, there goes the neighborhood."

"Hey, it's Spike," Willow whispered, leaning into Buffy. "We can finally see if the truth spell worked!"

"Shh, don't say that so loud," Xander hissed, watching as the two vampires made their way through the crowd. Buffy was staring at them as they came forward, a strange frown on her face.

Angel leaned towards her, keeping his attention focused on Spike and Carly. "Buffy? Are you all right?"

"Mm-hmm, why?"

"You look like you're deep in thought about something. Is there something about Spike that I'm not noticing?"

"No, I was just thinking... he's kind of sexy, don't you think? In a dangerous, could rip out your throat sort of way?"

"What is that supposed to mean? I'm dangerous too!" he pouted, sitting back in his chair.

"Of course you are, honey," she said condescendingly, patting him on the arm. "Just not like Spike is."

"Well, well, if it isn't the Slayer and her Pips," Spike sneered, sliding up to their table.

Carly stepped up next to him and smirked. "Shouldn't you be out ridding the streets of evil, or... dying your roots or something?"

Buffy stood up, frowning. "Excuse me? I'll have you know this blonde is all natural..."

"...No additives, no preservatives, just 100% Buffy," Xander quipped, then looked up at Carly and squinted. "I'm not so sure the same can be said for you, though."

Carly growled and started to lunge for him, but Spike grabbed her, holding her back. "What did I say about tearing out people's throats in public?"

Buffy looked down at Angel and smiled. "See what I mean? Throat-ripping, strangely sexy."

"Hey, Spike," Willow said suddenly, distracting him from his chastisement of Carly. He let her go and turned to the petite redhead.

"What?"

"I um... what are you doing here?" Now that she was faced with him, she had no idea how to ask him about the Gem without tipping him off that they knew.

"None of your bloody business. This was a public place last time I checked."

"Oh, yeah, right. Um, where's your other bimbo lackey?"

Carly chuckled softly and pointed at Willow. "I like her." Spike turned to frown at her, and her grin slowly added away. "Hey, wait a minute! What do you mean, 'other'?"

"You know, one of your offspring almost killed our friend," Buffy chimed in. "You do realize this means I'm going to have to go hunt him down and make him pay for it?"

Spike shrugged and started to pull Carly away from the table. "Go ahead, I got what I wanted out of him. Frankly, the man's starting to get on my nerves."

Buffy hid a small smile, taking his confession as a sign their spell was working. "So, what exactly did you want out of him?"

Spike laughed loudly and shook his head. "You really think I'd tell you? Why don't I just make things easy on you and go fall onto a stake? Or better yet, take a nap under a skylight? Come on, Carly, she's not here, let's go before I lose my temper and kill one of them."

"I wouldn't mind seeing that, you can start with that witch that called me a bimbo!"

He grabbed her arm and pulled her away from the table before she could make more of a scene. She huffed and grumbled the entire way out of the club, but knew better than to fight him. Once they were gone, Willow sighed and shook her head.

"I guess it didn't work. I should know better by now, none of my spells ever work. Not the big ones."

"At least Spike doesn't suspect anything," Angel offered. "If he found out that we knew about the Gem of Power, who knows what he would do?"

"Rip out our throats?" Xander answered sarcastically. He saw Buffy hide a small smile and raised an eyebrow quizzically. "Um, Buff? I'm talking about mass carnage here. I know you try to find the happy in everything, but this is a bit much."

"Sorry, it wasn't that, it just reminded me of something I was telling Angel earlier."

"Really? What could that have possibly reminded you of? Or don't I want to know?"

She shrugged, reaching for her drink. "I was just telling him that I sometimes find Spike strangely sexy in a dangerous kind of way. You know, the whole smoldering eyes, platinum hair, foreign accent.. aside from the evil, soulless part, not a bad package."

"Oh, okay," he muttered, picking at his cooling plate of fries. "I guess he did look good in that coat just now, but I mean that in a purely heterosexual way, mind you."

"Of course," Willow said, nodding dramatically. "After all, you had sex with Cordelia today."

Xander grinned at the reminder. "That's right, I did. And, once I get home, I might just stop by her place and have some more. It's like Jell-O, there's always room for more. Ooh, Jell-O... Maybe I should get some of that, then while we're in her kitchen...I think her counter is Formica, I wonder if that's slippery?"

"Trying to see how many kinds of furniture you can christen?" Buffy teased.

"You should try desks sometime," Nikolas noted casually, oblivious to the angry look he received from Emily. "Just make sure all the pens and stuff are off of it first." He made a face, clearly having had the misfortune to find out what happened when they weren't.

Willow sighed heavily, waving her hand over the candle that sat in the center of the table, causing the tiny flame to tremble. "I can't believe the spell didn't work. I did everything by the book, word-for-word. Spike should have been spouting out truth left and right just now."

"Maybe it just doesn't work on vampires," Angel suggested. "Maybe the subject has to be alive for it to work."

"Could be. Or maybe I just suck."

Xander shook his head and reached for her arm. "Hey, Will, don't say that. It could have been worse. At least it didn't backfire like last time and move the Hellmouth to some poor, unsuspecting town, causing us all to have to relocate in order to clean up the mess it caused."

"Gee, thanks, Xander," she muttered bitterly. "You always do know the perfect thing to say."

"I'm here for ya babe. Now, are you going to finish those fries, or are you just going to play with them all night?"

She shoved the plate towards him and folded her arms across her chest in annoyance. "Take them. You'll need to keep up your strength if you're going to go back and make wild monkey love to Cordelia later."

"Good point. She did kind of wear me out. But, at least I'm not bruised like I was after Faith."

"It really is too bad that spell didn't work," Emily noted, looking over at Nikolas. "If they had gotten Spike to tell them about that gem-thingy, they'd be off chasing after it by now, and we wouldn't have to be listening to stories about Xander's love life."

"Hey, trust me, there aren't many stories to tell," Xander said pointedly. "My love life is basically non-existent, so when something does happen like today, I tend to enjoy regaling my buds with it, makes me feel more manly."

"Yeah, well, it makes us nauseous," Buffy added. "No offense, of course."

"None taken. I always know I can count on you to be honest with me about such things."

"Yep, that's me. Honest Buffy." She chuckled and sat back in her chair. "It's a good thing Willow didn't use that spell on me, though. I'd hate to hear what might come out of my mouth if I couldn't lie."
