I haven't checked this site in a while. Would like to offer some strength and hope. DOC was ETOH. I spent three years in a confidential program. Was released with a free and clear license. I relapsed after two years and spent four more years on probation with permanent marks on my license. I was able to find work during all 7 years. I think it was because I was willing to take any job and any pay and any shift. It was grueling but I am glad I did it and finished the 2nd time. It was worth it because I love nursing and did not want to give up on it. I spent tons of money and tons of time in counseling. I learned a lot. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just hang on and hold your head up high. 7 years of monitoring and drug testing may well have extended my life span. I went through lots of humiliation and people telling me "I could never go through it the 2nd t ime" Guess what! You can, I did and made it to the other side. I work with a great bunch of people and a great boss and they all know my story. They don't hold it against me, you would be surprised how many people have someone close to them struggling with addiction and they can relate. I am happy :)
