Hi Hailey,

I have 1 misdemeanor and 2 felony *charges* all dui's, 3 in all. I am working in dialysis. My nursing license went on probation in Oct. 2011. I too am in a program. My sentence is 3 years of drawing for the *pee lottery* daily and the other nonsense we are required to fill out monthly as well as remind those in our *recovery* circle to fill out quarterly.

**You** are *NOT* tainted goods. You made a mistake and are better for it. We are human, not super human as much of society demands we be. You have 2 years sobriety; that's awesome! Believe it.

Employers are human too. Some of the employers out there have been or are currently in a program themselves.

Once your phone begins to ring and or your 'e' box begins to fill with interested employers, answer them with enthusiasm and confidence. My advice is to admit your mistake only to those who need to know for the purpose of hiring you. Once you obtain your position, go about your business and trust *nobody*. It's a rough world in general, and rougher in nursing. I've learned painfully to trust nobody with my sins except my closest non-nursing friends and my hiring manager.

I wish you well. You, Hailey, are your best bet at obtaining employment. Be proactive, come across confident, capable; and when the subject of your sin comes up, be humble and remorseful, yet smile because it is **Past** Sell, sell, sell, yourself. Follow the hiring manager/interviewers lead. It just may be easier than you think. We work ourselves up so much that sometimes we come off as less than worthy candidates in are own minds. That will come across in an interview. Practice interviewing, do role play with someone you trust. I did, and it helped a lot! Google interviewing for a nursing position with a criminal record. There are pointers there as well.

I'm currently in a transition at work that had it happened 6 months ago I would have crumbled miserably. I'm awaiting some things/outcomes and then I want to share my story here.

Good Luck!
