Subject: Scene attack!!!

Okay, sitting here, playing when I should be reading for class tomorrow, and I get a vision of Valerie. Drunk as a skunk and telling someone(s?) off. Drinking is not something I've had her indulge in much, aside from a glass of wine or a beer here and there. But this is bugging me, Bad. It's definitely her and she's drunk and angry, or annoyed enough after a long enough period of time that she doesn't care. I could see her telling off her ex MIL with no trouble, but with her family, she tell it like it is all along without the effect of alcohol. So what am I going to do with this?! I have a vague idea of a setting at her ex husband's funeral (yes, I think the cancer is going to claim him in the end, but at least he got to be human first.) Getting blasted at a family funeral is certainly not unheard-of, especially in the South, but it's just not Val's style.

Then again, we've never seen Daniel roaring drunk either... *Very Big Evil Grin*

I post this as a plea for help but also as a way of not losing this idea in the shuffle of class and work and class and work...

Any and all suggestions, ideas, silly notions are welcome. Brainstorming takes on myriad forms...

If she doesn't drink much normally, then the alcohol might have an expected effect on her, particularly the disinhibition. Problem is, I don't see Valerie as particularly inhibited, at least when it comes to telling people what she thinks! Or maybe there is something she is inhibited about, something she holds back. Her feelings for Daniel? The disappointments in her life?
The disappointments in her life? The true extent of her anger at her ex?

Anyway, what I would do is write out her speech, forget for the moment where and when she's making it. Let her speak her words and then it may become clearer.

I'm seeing this scene taking place further down the road, in the next story, so, unless something made her think she was losing Daniel again, I don't know if that would come up as an excuse to get blasted and mean. It's a possibility, though.

There aren't any clear words yet. I just see her, without even an idea of anyone around. I feel like a crime-scene psychic... ugh.

Thank you Fi, for your excellent suggestions.

[> just an idea -- Lady Morilka, 15:03:53 09/17/10 Fri

the first thing I could think of that would make her that angry was maybe something at work. Maybe someone brings a pet (maybe a dog like hers) in way tooo late or completly in a state of mess that could so easyly been avoided if said person whould have just cared. I think maybe she wouldn't yell at the owner there but maybe it would upset her enough to try to forget it over a drink (or two) and than she could meet him there again. Maybe that person would try to hit on her and she tries at first to stay calm by taking more drinks... (maybe Daniel ist away on a flight and she can't reach him for support)
Feel free to ignore me, but that was just a thought.

I can see her getting very upset over a case of neglect or cruelty, but I don't know if that would be enough to set her drinking. Maybe if she were drinking ( maybe her SIL Sheila has dragged her out for a girl's night when Daniel's gone, and they run into the guilty party someplace, that's a possibility. Ruin a perfectly good buzz...;-)

Thanks for the ideas and hope all is well with you!

Yes, I am fine. I have been told to step down a bit by the docs since out little one is a bit too small for this time in the pregnancy. They have no idea how hard THAT is for me since I am way too active to sit or lie still for a long periode of time. ;)
But since it is working, the little one gained weight the last weeks, I cope with it.

Glad to hear it! We have a crop of new baby boys locally. Two men in my department have new sons, days apart, and my neighbor across the street has a new son that's a month old. I'm a bit old be starting that nonsense so I'm planning to not drink the water or some other strategy for awhile.;-)
