I'm thinking it's a combo of sibling jealously and normal 3yo behavior. In either case, some things you can't ignore, like the misbehaving in the grocery store. And, you really don't want him carrying the baby around either. (I've always been told never to leave a baby alone with a small child). Although, millions of little brothers and sisters have survived!

We were in a similar situation...DS#1 was 3yo when DS#2 was born. While I have discovered from talking to friends that DS#1 is an unusally well-behaved child, he gets into his share of mischief. (Night before last I had to call Poison Control after he sprayed air freshener into his mouth (why would anyone do that?)).

I would say be firm and consistent. When you "threaten" to leave a store if he misbehaves, do it. Don't buy everything he whines for or you'll end up broke!

And, just remember what Aprilsmama used to say "This too shall pass."

And, I have found that a sense of humor REALLY helps. Laugh, when all else fails.
