Subject: Origin of the worms

I don't think most people think about "aliens" or "alien life" in the Dune novels. The main characters seem to be human and usually the bad guys are human or some human variation (face dancers, futars, etc.).

But that's because they are forgetting about the worms. the worms are truly alien and even immigrated to Arrakis by some unknown means. Now they have been fused with a modicum of human intelligence by Leto so they are even different from their original form.

Does anyone think that we will ever learn the origin of these worms and where they come from or how and why they were transported to Arrakis?
If someone transported them there, I assume it was for a purpose. Did whoever transport them use them for spice harvesting?
I think it's one of the biggest mysteries of the book that has never and might never be solved.
In the first books especially, the worms and and the mysteries of their life cycle was fascinating and part of the main thrust of the action. After God Emperor of Dune, the worms seems to become less important. I am wondering if that will change for book 7?

Thoughts anyone?
