I just finished reading Dune today and am now in the middle of Dune Messiah.
I came across something on page 147 (of the Ace paperback edition) that I thought was odd and could fit into this discussion. On the ride back from investigating Lichna's corpse, Alia explains to Duncan how she knows her father. She says that because of the Water of Life, she knows her father the way as her mother knew him.
If Alia has access to her male memories, she should know her father as her father knew himself.
Maybe Frank Herbert forgot a detail about the Water of Life and made a mistake - if this is true, then I wonder if this is the error or if the the presense of the Baron Harkonnen is the error.
