Well, I think it would be pretty hard to measure how many people specifically didn't watch COD because of Susan Sarandon. And then, how many of those people actually would have been counted in the ratings.
Considering that COD did better the first night than the original Dune, my guess is that they actually hooked MORE viewers by advertising the show (with Susan Srandon) this time around. But COD couldn't keep the same volume of viewers for whatever reason.
My guess is that they were reasons other than Sarandon. At least that is my educated guess.
