Subject: Evidence that Paul doesn't have Other Memory
In reply to: IDAHO 's message, "Paul and proof of his Other Memory" on 12:55:13 06/04/03 Wed

I seem to recall a conversation between Paul and his mother where she thinks that he is the KH and he tells her that he is not, that he is something different. (Of course I think this is in the desert before he ever takes the water of life, but the point is that he is something different.)
It seems to me that the main argument is that the KH is simply a male that successfully takes the water of life. Nothing tells us this is true. It is an assumption.
Also, from what I recall, neither Paul nor Leto nor Ghanima ever referred to him as the Kwisatz Haderach.

So I have to say I continue to be skeptical. The best argument for Paul being the KH that I've seen is the fact that the other characters that have "other memory" don't necessarily refer to it. Unfortunately that doesn't really prove anything. None of these people were male or the KH, so we can't know that the result would be the same. Also, some argue that because all others who took the water of life have "other memory", Paul naturally would have it also. The same problem exists with that argument.

The arguments that Paul was NOT, however, have two very strong supporting facts: the fact that Paul's supposed "other memory" is NOT supported in the text after the fact, and the fact that there is an instance in the text where Leto shows Paul his memories and Paul is overwhelmed.
It seems to me that the evidence points toward Paul not having the "other memory".

I think Paul's connection to the past was like his connection to the future- a prescient-like vision, not the memories of ancestors. He was truly "something different."
